Muller completes sweep of Semi-Pro classes
KILLINGTON, Vermont (April 4, 2012) – Former champion Danny Poirier blasted his way to victory in the Pro Open final Sunday, as East Coast Snocross (ECS) wrapped up its inaugural season at the historic Pico Mountain ski resort.
Poirier (Hulten Speed Sports/No. 312), of St. Theodore, QC, grabbed the holeshot in the day’s biggest race, only to be passed by Morin as the two started down the track’s treacherous downhill section. Morin carried too much speed at the bottom and launched his sled out over the berm, coming to rest on its side next to the ECS office trailer.
As Morin struggled to get back on his machine and continue, Poirier sped away to his second win of the season. Teenage rookie sensation Corin Todd (JAC Racing/Arctic Cat) capped his season with a fifth straight podium finish in second, while Matt Piche came home third. Todd turned heads all season as he ran with veteran Pro riders while learning a new brand of sled.
Morin (Ingles Performance/Ski-doo), who came off his sled a second time late in the Open final, rallied back to a fourth place finish. After locking up the Pro Stock crown on Saturday, Morin made it a Pro sweep when he took the green flag in Sunday’s final.
In Semi-Pro action Sunday, Richmond, MN, native Jacob Muller powered his way to victory in the 10-lap final. Muller (Team Southside/No. 727) grabbed the holeshot with Chris Ackerman and Cody Flach in tow. Jesse James Bonaduce worked his way up to third at the finish, one of his best performances in recent weeks.
Jason Boron (Green Mountain Racing/Arctic Cat) claimed the day’s first final in Plus 30 Pro Am action. Defending champion Joe Lemieux chased the much-younger Boron all race yet settled for second, while Patrick Brodeur came home third. Lemieux capped a stellar season with a victory in the Masters final, giving the Vermont native reason to smile in his home state.
Mike Pilotte put in his best effort to date in the hotly-contested Sport division classes at Pico. Pilotte held off a hard-charging Leo Patenaude to claim Saturday’s Super Stock final, while veteran Bruce Gaspardi Jr. Filled out the podium. Pilotte was on top of his game again Sunday, out-gunning the mega-talented Hunter Nelson and Jarett Catlin for top honors. Gaspardi picked up a victory of his own in Sport Stock 600, with Tyler Brancifort and Catlin second and third.
In Junior competition at Pico, Connor Roscoe and Montana Jess added more wins to their already impressive seasons. Roscoe powered his Ski-doo to victory in Saturday’s 16-17 Stock 600 final, then led Jerry Field and James Obine (both strong young racers) across the line on Sunday.
Roscoe spoke like a mature veteran in the Winner’s Circle, praising his team and giving thanks to those who made it all possible. Jess, of Westminster, MA, known affectionately as “The Fyin’ Onion” in racing circles, held off Wade Acker and Hunter Patenaude to claim Saturday’s 10-13 Stock 600 Fan final. Jess repeated his effort on Sunday, leading Patenaude and Acker across the finish line once again.
Other final round winners over the weekend in Killington include Steffanie Lemieux-Bell (Pro Women Saturday & Sunday); Daryl Nutting (Plus 25 Stock); Abigail Catlin (Women Stock 600 Saturday); Tucker Olsen (Jr. 8-10 Stock 300 Saturday); and Taylor Anderson (Jr. Girls 10-13 Stock 600). Congratulations to all of our winners at Pico on a job well done.
East Coast Snocross would like to thank officials at Pico Mountain and its parent company, the Killington Resort, for hosting the finale in our inaugural season. From excellent snow conditions (the huge track was made entirely from natural snow) to plenty of parking and that priceless Vermont charm, Pico served as a fantastic home for snowmobile racing. We were honored to race on such hallowed ground and hope to return in 2012.
A complete list of class champions will be posted on the ECS Web site in the coming days. For full results from Pico or to learn more, go to www.eastcoastsnocross.com.
On behalf of co-owners Bob Roscoe and Eric Scott, general manager Shawn Longbook and the entire ECS staff, a sincere thank you goes out to all the folks who made our inaugural season a success; Woody’s Traction & Control products, AMSOIL, Choko Design, Ingles Performance, New England Race Fuels, Ski-doo, Arctic Cat and every single associate sponsor. Your support of snocross was deeply appreciated throughout the season, and we hope you’ll return in 2011-2012.
Whether you ride dirt bikes, mountain bikes, spend your summer at the beach or just soaking up the warm sun, have a safe and wonderful off-season. All of us at ECS hope to see you again next winter.
