SOUTH PLATTSBURGH – Airborne Speedway will host a stand-alone Fourth of July Holiday Fireworks Spectacular Tuesday, July 3 and combine it with a new style of motorsports mayhem known as “car soccer”

Car soccer is a demolition derby variation popularized at Midwestern State Fairs. Teams of drivers attempt to score goals with a steel ball without getting knocked out of commission by their opponents.

“I think we’ve struck a chord with this one,” promoter Mike Perrotte said. “There’s been a lot of interest and inquiries about rules and signing up already.”

Adirondack Family Chiropractic’s Dr. Joe Clauss and his family will return as the fireworks masterminds. Last year’s aerial display was one of the largest in New York State.

“We had one of the largest crowds ever at the races for the fireworks last year,” Perrotte said. “Given the timing of the weekday holiday this year, we decided to have the fireworks celebration on its own night. That will make getting in and out of the track easier and seats available for everybody. The car soccer event will add some fun and excitement and the go-kart track will be open too.”

The following Saturday night, July 7, Airborne hosts an extra-distance USA/Canada Limited Late Model Masters Series event.

Airborne’s 59th season opener, presented by Econo Lodge, is set for Sunday, April 29 at 2 p.m.
