In 2012 Mathew Bourgoine won the Amsoil NELCAR Championship as well as the TNT Championship. So what is it like to win the championship, “Its Awesome!! It was a goal I set for myself when I started racing Legends, and now that I have done it. It feels awesome!!”

In the off season Bourgoine has been enjoying the winter sports and, finding new business adventures. “I went to some car shows, did some snowmobiling, and did a little ice fishing. I also have been getting things going on a new business called Bourgoine Designs. We’ll be doing T-shirts, stickers, and a bunch of stuff!!”

Looking back at the 2012 season Mathew, recall’s his most memorable moment came from his determination not to give up. “The first thing that comes to mind is the wreck I had at TNT. On a good note though, It has to be the night I received the TNT Championship. In the last race, I honestly thought I was out of the hunt for the Championship and was just going to go out and try to win the race. Luck would have it though and I ended up with it!!”

The NELCAR Legends kicks off the 2013 race season April 6th at Wiscasset Speedway, and Mathew looks to do a repeat of the 2012 season. “Our plans are a lot like last year “have fun and try to win the championship”. We also have most of our sponsor from last year comeback (Corinna Auto Body, Caron Signs, and Terry’s Garage) along with a new one (Bourgoine Designs).”

This race season the TNT and NHMS are no longer part of the NELCAR points. “I think the separation from NHMS is a good thing. It gives the people in New England more choices on where they want to race. On the TNT side, I would like to see an overall champion, but on the other hand it gives the younger people a chance to run for the championship.”

This season NELCAR will be returning to some of the regular tracks here in New England with some new additions to the tour schedule, Oxford Plains Speedway, Wiscasset Speedway, and Spud Speedway. “I think it’s great. It gives us a great variety of tracks, yet it isn’t to stress full to make all the races!!”

The racing in legends cars is always evolving whether it be upgrades to the cars, safety, or even the rules package. “The only thing I can think of is to have a cone race!! A cone race is when you can decide if you want the inside or outside for the restart.”
