Press_release_May30_webLAKEVILLE, Conn. (May 30) – The Chairman of Lime Rock Park’s Historic Festival 31, Murray Smith, today published the race group titles and descriptions for the August 30 – September 2 vintage racing event. More than 300 historic cars are due to compete.

This year Lime Rock Park is celebrating the “birthdays” of iconic cars and marques. Historic Festival 31 celebrates the anniversaries of Aston Martin, now 100 years old; a reunion of the Cunningham marque at 60 years old (Smith says to expect “an unprecedented array”); the Corvette, also 60; the Porsche 911, introduced 50 years ago; as well as the Lotus Elan’s 50th. In addition there will be extraordinary vehicles from the stable of Honored Collector Laurence Auriana.

Group I, for the Lime Rock Cup: “Nippy & Agile,” road-going production sports and GT cars
Group 2, for the VSCCA Bowl, “The Dawn of Real Performance,” early sports and racing cars
Group 3, for the Anglo-Italian Ingot, “Fast, Furious & Fun,” Formula Junior
Group 4, for the Chairman’s Mug, “Fifties & Sixties Flyers,” mid-century sports racing cars
Group 5, for the Posey Plate, “The Real Deal,” authentic Trans-Am cars
Group 6, for Skip’s Challenge Award, “No Holds Barred,” Formula Libre single-seaters
Group 7, for Mick’s Magnum – Classic and Sports Car Magazine Cup, “Wild, Wild Horses,” big-bore production sports and GT cars
Group 8, for the Litchfield Cup, “Not Quite Street Legal,” modified production cars
Group 9, for the Timolat Trophy “Sophisticated & Specialized,” post-1965 sports racing cars

Since 1983, the East Coast’s premier vintage racing and concours event has been the Historic Festival weekend at Lime Rock Park, held annually on Labor Day weekend. No other venue in the U.S. has three days of on-track racing sandwiching a prestigious concours event all on the same property.
