Beech Ridge Motor Speedway Race Report

SCARBOROUGH, Maine – Dan McKeage of Gorham, Maine, finished 10th in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Pro Series 40 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine, on Saturday, June 15. It was the third straight Top-10 finish to open the season for the 2010 track champion. McKeage rallied from two spins at the hands of other drivers, each one coming as he was racing his way into the Top-5 with the Naughty 40 Racing No. 40 Top Gun Construction Chevrolet. After two pit stops from the crew for repairs and adjustments on the fly, McKeage was able to drive from the back to salvage a good points night.

DAN, DO YOU HAVE TO TAKE A BIG-PICTURE LOOK AFTER TONIGHT?
I guess that is the only positive, really. We had a good car, but I guess we were in the wrong place racing around the wrong cars. We got spun out (on Lap 31), and we came in and made a couple little changes and made sure the thing would still breathe and went back out to do some more. I thought we had the wreck missed again, and then kind of got collected (on Lap 37).

I guess a Top-10 is OK, but it kind of breaks the streak of Top-5s to start the year all to hell. I guess I’m OK with it.

HOW WAS THE CAR’S HANDLING?
In the heat race it wasn’t too bad, but it definitely was tight. This week, running three (new) tires instead of two, with everything we had done last week to tighten it up, we put all the adjustments back to where it was. It was pretty decent.

We had easily a Top-3 or a Top-5 car. We probably weren’t going to win the race, but we were going to put on a better show than we did.

IS IT TOO EARLY TO START WATCHING POINTS?
I always just try and do the best we can every night. Our goal is to be in the Top-3 every week. Top-5s are good, and 10th isn’t so good. The points will come, but we like to put on a good show and finish up front every week.
If you can do that, by the end of the year we should be somewhere within reach and have a shot at (the championship) with about three (races) to go.
