Double Your Pleasure At the Legion Speedway

The Legion Speedway in Wentworth, NH made up for having half a night of racing last week by holding two nights’ worth on June 30. The first set of features was sponsored by Mike’s Automotive of Tilton, NH and the second, courtesy of Hawthorne Automotive in Franklin.

Gary Seimons (#51) won the first Main Event in the Sportsmen Modified division. “Racin'” Jason Sanville’s #92 took second, followed by Chad Turck in #56. Sanville improved by a spot for the later feature, winning over Allan Hammond (#77). Seimons managed a third to go with his earlier win.

Jack “Wild Child” Whynot brought his #27 Super Street home in first place twice, winning both features. Mike Greene (#29) also took second place in both races. Doug McPhail (#6) took third in the first race, with Nick O’Haire finishing third in the nightcap with his #09 “Flintstone Flyer.”

The first feature for the Bond Auto Parts Outlaw Mini-Stocks may well have been the best race of the night, a true nail-biter from flag to flag. Dave Durkee (#67) drove a magnificent race to clinch his first feature win of the season, followed by points leader Chris Conroy (#78) and Jim Durkee (#9). Conroy advanced one place to get the second Mini-Stock main, with Rob Gioia (#4) and Mike Lique (#7) rounding out the top three.

Luke Greenwood (#89) also went two-for-two in the 600cc Mini-Sprints, keeping his incredible streak alive and extending his very substantial points lead. In the first race Jamie Glidden (#4) was second, followed by the #73 of Jake Williams. Spencer Allen (#22) took second in the late-night event, and Glidden added a third-place trophy to his haul for the evening.

The Legion Speedway was also visited by the Granite State Mini-Sprints Club, whose 500cc feature was sponsored by Brownie’s Auto Parts of Enfield, NH. Four-time champion Lacey Hansen (#33) held off Josh Boisseneau (#05) for the win. Doug Boisvert (#44) came home in third after the #68 of Robby LaCroix was disqualified for failing the post-race tech inspection.

The Speedway was also visited by Norm Roulx, who was once part owner and announcer of the track back when it was the Nor-Way Pines. He spoke at length about the history of the track and invited everyone to the Nor-Way Pines Reunion, to be held at the Legion Speedway next Sunday, July 7 starting at 1 pm. The Legion Speedway hopes that fans of all ages will come and enjoy seeing the history of this great and ling-lived facility, going back to its 1961 opening as the Legion Bowl.

The Legion Speedway is located on rt. 25 on the Rumney/Wentworth town line. Races are held Sunday evening starting at 5 pm.
