Waterford Speedbowl Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday 7/23 Results

Waterford, CT (July 23, 2014) – Waterford Speedbowl beat the heat with
another action packed night of motorsports Wednesday evening. Mike
Christopher Jr. of Wolcott checkered another INEX Legend Cars feature to
lead the winner’s list. Joining him were Mitch Bombard of Willimantic in
the X-Cars, Dave Yardley of Berlin in the Super X-Cars and Jonathon Puleo
of Branford in the INEX Bandoleros. Peter Pollard of Old Lyme captured
the night’s Wacky Race.

The INEX Legend Cars were in the spotlight Wednesday with a special 30-lap
extra-distance race. Christopher won his ninth race of the year for the
mid-week series, continuing his dominance in the division. He used a
three wide move early to position himself for a run at the lead, which he
made on lap-5. He shot past the inside of John O’Sullivan Jr. to take
command, then controlled the race over two restarts the rest of the way.
Nick Ladyga stayed with Christopher for a few laps after the final restart
on lap-18, however Christopher eventually pulled away to the win. Ladyga
was second and Michael Blaskey third.

Bombard was a popular winner in X-Car action. He won for the first time
of the year outdueling point leader Zac Thomas over a late restart in the
25-lapper. Thomas was the leader from lap-6 until the final caution flag
on lap-21. He missed a shift and Bombard seized the moment, restarting
cleanly on the outside to pull ahead for the win. Thomas could not rally
for a comeback and settled for second position, with Eric Finkbein Jr.
coming out on top in a late race battle for third.

Yardley and Bill Reiman battled side-by-side for the win in the 25-lap
Super X-Car feature. The two raced a final three lap sprint even after a
caution flag on lap-22 set up a thrilling finish. The two were even at
lap-28, Reiman led the white flag lap by a nose, and Yardley came back on
the outside over the final lap to win by a few feet at the checkered flag.
Reiman finished second and early leader Ken Downing III was third.

Puleo had to overcome adversity on the way to his 15-lap INEX Bandolero
feature victory. He started the race on a mission, using a three wide
maneuver at the green flag to take the lead. Anthony Marvin moved in
behind to challenge Puleo and the two cars came together and spun in the
third turn on lap-3 to draw the only caution flag of the event. Puleo
stormed back, racing by then-leader Ken Morin Jr. on lap-6. Puleo could
not shake Morin from his rear view mirror the rest of the way but was able
to stay out front. Morin finished second and Marvin rebounded to finish
in third.
