Oxford Plains Speedway owner Tom Mayberry announced today that the 42nd Annual Oxford 250 will move to a new date starting in 2015. The richest single day short track racing event in North America will now be contested August 28-30, 2015. The Oxford 250 will once again be a Pro All Stars Series (PASS) sanctioned, “open” Super Late Model event, with qualifying heat races and feature racing for the PASS Super Late Models on August 30 to continue the single day tradition the race has become famous for.

Oxford Plains Speedway officials felt that the move to August was needed to accommodate fans who might want to also attend events scheduled for next July at nearby New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

“By announcing the move of the 42nd Annual Oxford 250 to August 30, 2015, we feel this will give ample time to our fans who are looking to plan their summer vacations around this prestigious event,” said Mayberry. “The Oxford 250 is arguably the biggest event in short track racing and we look forward to seeing everyone next August.”

A full schedule of events and support divisions for the 42nd Annual Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway will be announced in the near future.

Barre’s own Jim “Boomer” Morris claimed his second feature win of the season in dominant fashion during the final Thursday (August 28) night of the 2014 season presented by Aubuchon Hardware. Morris held off a late charge by Jason Allen for the 50-lap win.

Morris started on the pole of the 26 car Late Model field and built a lead early in the race before Allen broke away from the pack and began to chase him down. With just under two laps to go, Allen reached Morris’ bumper but couldn’t get by. Current point leader Derrick O’Donnell recovered from an accident in the consolation event to start 14th on the field and worked his way to third. It was O’Donnell’s sixth straight podium finish.Emily Packard and second place point man Nick Sweet rounded out the top five. Phil Scott, Shawn Fleury, Dave Pembroke, John Donahue, and Jason Corliss completed the top ten. The caution free event saw lots of side-by-side action.

Mike Billado of Essex scored his third Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen feature win of the season. He led Joe Steffen and Christopher Pelkey to the line in the 35-lap caution free event. Doug Crowningshield and Jeff Bousquet took top fives. Brendan Moodie, Dylan Payea, point leader Jason Woodard, Joel Hodgdon and Cameron Ouellette put up top ten efforts.

The Perry brothers of Hardwick finished one, two in the Allen Lumber Street Stock caution plagued 25 lap feature. Jamon earned his first career win over Jadon. The duo finished just ahead of Will Hennequin on the podium, who recovered from being involved in an early caution. Jamie Davis and Kyle Streeter completed the top five. Marcel Gravel took sixth, while Garry Bashaw was the highest finishing driver from the top five in the point standings in seventh. Michael Gay, Keith Fortier and Alan Maynard completed the top ten. The top three in the Allen Lumber Street Stock standings, Tommy Smith, Bunker Hodgdon and Donny Yates all failed to complete the event, finishing 19th, 17th, 18th respectively.

The 2014 Thunder Road Late Model “King of the Road” title concludes this Sunday, August 31 with the 36th annual Coca-Cola Labor Day Classic. The Late Model Champion will be crowned while the Tigers and Street Stocks will also be in action. Post time is 1:30pm.

Derek Griffith, the young and talented pro-stock driver from Hudson, NH is looking to rebound after a pair of disappointing finishes as the Granite State Pro Stock Series returns to the quarter-mile Star Speedway in Epping, NH.

The 17 year-old driver of the No 12 Mom’s of Manchester/LCM Racing Toyota recently finished in the 8th position after a series of misfortunes during the Hudson Hugger at Hudson International Speedway back on August 23rd.

Derek remarked, “We are not very happy with the way things turned out, we needed to finish strong at our home track and we just couldn’t find our rhythm. I know that Star will be different.”

“We’re tied with Barry [Gray] for fourth in the points, we really don’t think about the points all that much but as the season winds down, our focus is to get the best finishes possibleand to finish out the season as best we can.”

Griffith also stated, “I think we can certainly contend for the win at Star, we have a great set-up and I had the fastest car before our mishap with Gelinas. I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel and try to put the Tyngsboro Motors/FEP Insurance Toyota Camry in victory lane.”

The last time the GSPSS raced at Star was August 16th. Griffith finished in a season low 18th place as he and Larry Gelinas tangled early on, however Derek consistently runs in the top 5 at Star Speedway and is looking for his first career Granite State Pro Stock Series victory.

Derek will be in action on September 6, 2014 at Star Speedway for 100 laps with the GSPSS. The post time is 6 p.m.

Shawn Knight of South Paris powered to an impressive victory in just his second appearance of the season, dominating the Budweiser Pro Late Model field topping the card in Oxford Championship Series competition Saturday night at Oxford Plains Speedway.

Knight’s performance was particularly noteworthy as he drove to the front of the 21-car field from 16th starting position without the aid of a caution flag, only needing about a lap more than half of the 60-lap event distance to take a lead he would not relinquish in the non-stop event.

Scott Moore of Anson made a valiant attempt to spoil Knight’s night, battling the winner right to the checkered flag in admiral fashion to claim runner-up honors. While Knight was particulary impressive while moving into contention, Moore certainly turned up the wick to remain in contention after yielding the top spot.

The final podium position was earned by TJ Brackett of Buckfield, who unofficially took over the top position in the championship standings with just one event remaining on the OCS schedule. Auburn’s Travis Stearns earned his fourth-place finish, while Mark Lundblad, Jr. rounded out the top five. Multi-time track champion Shawn Martin of Turner kept his title hopes alive with a sixth-place run.

Kyle Hewins of Leeds got to the front of the pack early on and dominated the top spot en route to victory lane in the 40-lap feature race for Allen’s Coffee-Flavored Brandy Street Stocks. Once in front, Hewins wasn’t seriously challenged, though championship contender Josh Childs of Oxford was clearly the best of the rest on this Saturday night. Bridgton’s BJ Chapman claimed the final podium position and accompanying hardware. The previous week’s winner, Ryan Hewins, was chased under the checkered flag by poppa Kurt Hewins of Leeds to round out the top five.

Buckfield’s Gerry Freve led most of the way and claimed victory in the 35-lap main event for the Ripley & Fletcher Ford Outlaw Sportsman class. Freve was chased for most of the distance by Guy Childs, Sr., of Leeds, who settled for runner-up honors. Mike Haynes of Livermore Falls mounted a serious challenge for top honors before ending up with the final trophy. Points leader Troy Jordan of Turner and Bryce Mains of Naples rounded out the top five.

Cam Childs of Leeds made a spectacular, last-lap move to steal the lead away from Tyler Green a second or two before the checkered flag to post a surprise victory in the rapidly-growing, entry-level Bandits class. Childs proved to be the master of lapped traffic, picking and rolling his way to the checkered flag in impressive fashion. Green claimed second-place hardware, in front of points leader Derek Cairns, who padded his advantage atop the rankings. Richard Kimball and Troy Smith rounded out the top five.

Championship Night for the weekly Oxford Championship Series wraps up the points-counting season for the weekly Saturday night classes on September 6 at 7:00 p.m. For more information call (207) 539-8865 or visit oxfordplains.com

The Granite State Pro Stock Series (GSPSS) will participate in, quite possibly, the biggest race since the series’ inception in 2011. The NH Classic will take place at Star Speedway, Saturday, September 6th, as part of the 48th annual Star Classic.

The NH Classic was added to the GSPSS schedule to coincide with the Star Classic by GSPSS President Mike Parks and Star Speedway General Manager Bob Webber, JR. “The addition of the GSPSS to this event is a home run for us and for Star Speedway,” mentioned Parks. “It will give us a chance to put our product in front of ISMA fans, and a chance for our fans to see their product.” The Star Classic has been a staple on the ISMA Super Modified tour, and has seen such superstars as Jon McKennedy and Russ Wood be crowned winner.

The NH Classic will be the third stop at Star Speedway for the Granite State Pro Stock Series in the 2014 season. Jeremy Davis fought off Dylan Moltz to pick up the victory on June 28th, while Wayne Helliwell, JR survived a last chance effort from Larry Gelinas to take the August 16th race.

Point leader Matt Frahm enters the NH Classic with a 12 point advantage over Gelinas. In five races for the Hampstead, NH driver, Frahm has only finished outside the top 10 once (12th on 6/28/14), has one win, 3 podium finishes, with an average feature finish of 4.2. Third generation racer Brad Babb has recorded a third and fourth at Star Speedway this year with the GSPSS, showing the young driver is a threat to take the first ever NH Classic. Moltz, who had a dominant car in the early summer race, is looking to pick up his first victory with the series at a track that he owns a second and fifth place finish. Bobby Baillargeon is another driver to watch at the famed ¼ mile in Epping, NH. The inaugural runner-up in the 2012 championship standings, Baillargeon has not finished outside of the top 6 in 4 races, including two 3rd place finishes.

The second GSPSS Tournament Challenge presented by Victory Lane Radio and 360 Design Lab continues at the NH Classic at Star Speedway. A total of 8 drivers entered the event, which whittled down to 4 after the Hudson Hugger on August 24th. Barry Gray is set to do battle against Larry Gelinas, while Brad Babb will go against Matt Frahm. To advance, each driver only needs to finish ahead of his counterpart in the feature event. The winner of the second GSPSS Tournament Challenge will receive $500, while second place will pocket $200. The final round will take place at White Mountain Motorsports Park on September 20th.

Joining the Granite State Pro Stock Series and ISMA Super Modifieds will be Roadrunners, Strictly Stocks, and Outlaws.

The NH Classic will take place Saturday, September 6th, at Star Speedway in Epping, NH as part of the 48th annual Star Classic. There will be an open practice on Friday, September 5th, from 6-9 PM, with a Pit Party to follow, including driver autographs and giveaways. Pit gates will open on Saturday at 10:30 AM, practice beginning at 1:20 PM, and green flag scheduled to drop at 4:45PM.

At Monadnock Todd Patnode added more points to the NASCAR Whelen All American Racing Series NH Standings this past Saturday as he cruised into victory lane in dominating style for his eighth win of the season. Geoff Rollins came back after a tough hit last week to pull off the Super Stock victory as Kyle Boniface, uncontested, took down his eighth Lightning Stock win. The biggest victory of the night was Eric Pomasko scoring his first career Mini Stock win. George Baldwin took the checkers for the Thunder Stocks celebrating his 100th race career win and Mike McGoldrick held of the challenges fromMatt Kimball and Dylan Morse for the number one spot in the Young Guns. The visiting Pro 4 Modifieds victor was Robin Berghman with hometrack competitor, Kyle Boniface scoring the win for the Pro 4 Modified Lites. This past Saturday also completed the Triple Crown Series as the following were crowned the champions; Todd Patnode, Tom Carey III, Mike Stebbins, Kyle Boniface, Dave Greenslit and Mike McGoldrick.

JT Cloutier and Dana Smith brought the Sportsman Modifieds to the green flag start. Smith took the lead from rookie Cloutier coming to complete lap one. On lap four the race came to a halt as multiple cars were damaged ending the night for Steve Fifield, Brian Chapin, Brett Gonyaw and Ray Grassetti. On the restart, Smith took control and led for the next five laps as Tyler Jarvenpaa’s engine let go causing the caution flag to be displayed setting up a challenge for the lead between Smith and Patnode. Patnode was denied for several laps as Smith felt Patnode all over his back bumper.

Scott MacMichael and Bill Kimball had their own battle going on behind the two leaders for third. On Lap twenty four, the caution again was displayed for a single car spin of Matt Rzewnicki. On the restart, Smith continued to command the number one spot as Patnode continued to put the pressure on with Kimball sitting in third. A few laps later, Smith looking for a victory, was shattered as Kimball made contact going into turn one causing Smith to spin. Patnode now sat in the top spot and never looked as MacMichael and Keith Carzello fought wheel to wheel for several laps for second. Patnode cruised into the victory as Carzello fought hard coming in for second followed by MacMichael, Trevor Bleau and Eric Leclair.

The Super Stocks rolled out and started off with a lap one caution as the field went three wide unsettling competitors behind them forcing Tyler Leary to have contact with Nancy Muni Ruot. On the restart, Ian MacDonald and Tyler Lescord brought the field to the green. Lescord quickly jumped into the lead as Rollins followed in second. By lap eight, the fans saw a new leader of Rollins passing Lescord leaving him in a side by side battle with Ed Brehio III. Ten laps to go, Rollins and Brehio III checked out leaving the battle for third between Striebel and Lescord.

On lap twenty one Alyssa Rivera was shown the black flag as the whole side her race machine was coming apart, on lap twenty four Rivera stopped in turn three and four setting the field up for six lap shoot out. Two laps later, the race was under yellow again as Striebel running in third makes contact with another competitor collecting James Thompson, Ken Springer and Tyler Leary. On the restart, Rollins held of strong challenges from Brehio as he was all over Rollins back bumper until Tom Carey III recovering by an earlier spin came to battle. Rollins lead grew as Brehio and Carey ran the race out side by side to the checkered flag for second with Carey taking it over on the final turn of the race. MacDonald and Springer officially came in fourth and fifth.

It was Eric Pomasko’s night in the Mini Stocks as he sat on the pole for their main event. Pomasko quickly took the lead as rookie Faford was left in an early battle with Beth Adams for second. By lap ten, Adams and Mike Stebbins took over the second and third spot. Pomasko felt no pressure from second or third and continued to run a smooth strong race. Stebbins looked inside and outside on Adams to make a pass for second. As laps winded down, the only challenge left for Pomasko was to get through lap traffic as Adams denied any attempts from Stebbins on the inside line. Rookies Monahan and Faford awaited challenges from Chris McTaggart for the top five. At the checkers, it was an emotional Pomasko winning his first career Mini Stock event followed by Adams, Stebbins, Monahan and Faford.

The first lap of the Thunder Stocks was an exciting one as a caution came out immediately for three wide move from George Baldwin causing Ben Williams and Tyler Janovsky to spin. On the restart, Jason Barden and Randy McGee led the field to the green. Barden held off the challenges from Mcgee until lap seven when a little bump run action left Barden in second. McGee pulled away from the field as Greenslit worked on Barden for second. Ten to go, Baldwin sat in second as McGee, Baldwin and Greenslit ran nose to tail. A lap eighteen restart gave Baldwin the lead as McGee attempted to reel Baldwin in. On the final lap, it was Baldwin celebrating his 100th victory followed by McGee, Greenslit, Marshall Usher and Barden.

Matt Somerville and Pat Houle set the pace for the Lighting Stock. Somerville took the lead as Paquette took over the second spot. Boniface starting from seventh quickly took over second by lap six and was on the hunt for first from Somerville. By lap ten, Boniface took over the lead as Chris Davis and Josh Houle took over second and third. The battle between Davis and Houle continued for second as Boniface sailed away from the rest of field. Only four laps to go, Somerville running third suffers mechanical problems leaving Tim O’Shea in the third spot. At the checkers, it was Boniface followed by Josh Houle, Tim O’Shea, Eric Silvernale and Richard Whipple.

Michelle Leh sat in pole position for the twenty lap Young Gun event. By the second Lap, Leh already felt the pressure of Mike McGoldrick and Matt Kimball on her back bumper. Half way, Leh continued to hold on to the lead as Dylan Morse made an inside pass on Kimball for third. Lap thirteen proved to lucky for McGodrick as he made the pass on Leh for the lead. Morse continued to feel the pressure from Kimball as Solomon Brow ran behind the top three awaiting his opportunity. The top three battled it out right to the checkers as McGoldrick scored the win followed by Morse, Kimball, Brow and Bow Smith.

Derrick O’Donnell of North Haverhill, NH claimed his second straight Thunder Late Model “King of the Road” title at the conclusion of the 36th annual Coca-Cola Labor Day Classic 200 at Thunder Road on Monday, September 1. Second place point man Nick Sweet of Barre did all he could to snatch the title away from O’Donnell by claiming his second career Labor Day Classic victory, but O’Donnell’s seventh consecutive podium finish in second was enough to earn him the title.

The event originally scheduled for Sunday, August 31 was pushed back to Labor Day Monday due to rain. When the feature event finally went green, the defending track champion and point leader took the green flag 18th on the 32 car field, while Sweet started 14th and trailed in the standings by 16 points. At the start of the event, Sweet rocketed to the front of the field and settled in to the third spot by lap 41. O’Donnell patiently worked his way through the field and ran just inside the top ten through the first 140 laps

Jason Allen led early in the event before relinquishing the lead to Brett Gervais on lap 34. Gervais would lead until Sweet moved into the top spot on lap 92. Riding in the lead, mathematically Sweet had done enough to claim the title as O’Donnell was still just inside the top ten. After five of the 10 cautions in the 200 lap event between laps 141 and 155, O’Donnell had worked his way to fourth and back atop the title hunt.

Sweet was locked into a fierce battle for the win with Dave Pembroke until Pembroke flew off the top of turns one and two out of the lead on lap 144. Sweet then had to fend of Jason Corliss over the remaining 50 laps. The duo swapped the lead several times, but Sweet got the advantage with 30 laps to go. O’Donnell worked his way by Corliss and restarted outside of Sweet for the final restart with just 13 laps to go. Sweet got the advantage and cruised to the win.

O’Donnell held on to second ahead of Cody Blake in third. Trampas Demers and Brooks Clark completed the top five. Corliss fell back to sixth ahead of Chip Grenier, Joey M. Laquerre, Dave Pembroke and John Donahue.

The Coca-Cola Labor Day Classic 200 saw 32 cars take the green flag in the final Thunder Late Model point counting event of 2014 and the third of four events in the Vermont State Late Model Championship Series. The Labor Day Classic was completed with 10 cautions in one hour and twenty-eight minutes. There were 12 lead changes among five drivers.

The Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen saw Christopher Pelkey of Barre take his first win of the season ahead of Eric Johnson and Mike Martin in a caution free event. Jeff Bousquet and point leader Jason Woodard completed the top five. Derrick Calkins, Dylan Payea, Brendan Moodie, Lucas Wheeler and Mike Billado rounded out the top ten.

Marcel Gravel of Wolcott claimed his second Allen Lumber Street Stock win of 2014. He bested Will Hennequin, Patrick Tibbetts, Thomas Merchant and Alan Maynard. Keith Fortier, Bunker Hodgdon, Kyle Streeter, Tommy Smith and Garry Bashaw completed the top ten.

The fourth and final VT State Late Model Championship event will be on Sunday, September 14 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven, VT. Sweet continues to lead the series as he claimed his second win in three events.

Thunder Road concludes its 2014 season with the 52nd Annual People’s United Bank Milk Bowl on Sunday, October 5 with a 1:30pm post time. Booth Brothers/H.P. Hood Qualifying day is on Saturday, October 4 with a 1:00pm post time.
