The Brockton based Wheels of Time will try to get the 2015 cruise night schedule off to a start at the Raynham Taunton Park on Rt. 138 in Raynham on Thursday night, April 9 at 4 p.m.. They will continue to run every other Thursday starting on April 23, May 7, May 21, June 4, June 18, July 2, July 16, July 30, August 13, August 27, September 10. The club’s annual car show is set for Sunday, September 20 with a rain date of Saturday, September 26. That club will wind up the 2015 season with two more cruise nights set for Thursday’s September 24 and October 8. Some of these dates could change due to rain outs. The move to Raynham Park a few years ago, from Southeastern Regional Votec in Easton, gave the Wheels of Time almost unlimited parking spaces and this cruise night continues to grow.
The MA Cruisers of Norfolk will conduct cruise nights on alternate Thursday nights at Patriot’s Place in Foxbrough staring on April 16. The rest of the Thursday night schedule is April 30, May 14, May 28, June 11, June 25, July 9, July 23, August 6, August 20, September 3, September 17, October 1 and October 15. Some of the August dates may change due to Patriots pre-season games. There could also be make-up dates for rain outs. The cruise night officially starts at 5 p.m. when the DJ turns on the music speakers. However, many of the retirees, who own classic cars, start coming in at 2 p.m. so they can get a preferred spot close to the food and rest rooms. Especially when there is no threat of rain. Some early birds to that cruise night from the Camaro, Mustang, Corvette and Mopar clubs stake out a row for their club members around 3 p.m. When the weather co-operates there can be as many as 2,500 vehicles on hand by 6 p.m., due to the large parking lots. It’s been said that MA Cruisers event is the biggest cruise night in the nation.
In Halifax at the Wal-Mart store on Rt. 106 at the intersection of Rt. 58, the Scituate based Connecting Rods offer a another top cruise event on Friday nights starting at 5 p.m. In past years that cruise night has always opened on the first Friday night in May. So with that in mind, that cruise night should begin on Friday night, May 1 at 5 p.m. Before you travel any distance, give Wal-Mart’s in Halifax a call to see if they can confirm that it’s on.
The Icebreaker on April 11-12 marks the opening of the 75th season at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park (TSMP). To commemorate the occasion, TSMP will be holding a 75 lap race for their premiere NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, the Sunoco Modifieds.
The 75-lap feature will be the highest paying Sunoco Modified race in recent history, offering $2,000 to the winner, and $250 to any driver who takes the green. Teams will be allowed up to two tire changes, throughout the race.
The race will draw a strong field of Modified drivers, including NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour drivers Justin Bonsignore and Ted Christopher. Bonsignore was the winner of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour races at both the Icebreaker and Budweiser 150 last year. Christopher is one of the winningest drivers at TSMP, with 98 career wins, and will also be a strong contender for the win.
“We’re looking forward to being part of the 75 lap feature event for the Icebreaker,” said Justin Bonsignore. “This will be my first season running the SK Modifieds full time, and I’m excited to be running in the division. I’m also looking forward to being part of the 75th celebration, and the purse definitely helps to sweeten the pot. Hopefully we can put together a good car to win the race!” (end)
