Barre, VT – Shawn Fleury of Middlesex grabbed the lead from rookie Chris Pelkey of South Barre on a late-race restart, then went on to claim his second victory of the season in the 50-lap main event for the Thunder Road Late Models.
Pelkey took the lead from pole-sitter Scott Coburn of Barre and stayed in front until the second caution of the event flew on lap 46. Fleury, on the outside of the front row on the ensuing restart, took over the top spot on lap 47. Nick Sweet of Barre charged from 15th starting position to take second place, while Pelkey finished for third.
Scott Dragon of Milton, Matt White of Northfield, Marcel J. Gravel of Wolcott, Phil Scott of Middlesex, Jason Corliss of Barre, John Donahue of Graniteville, and Eric Badore of Milton rounded out the top 10.
Jason Woodard of Waterbury Center put together three top-5 finishes to claim the Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen Triple 20’s. Woodard finished third in the first segment and fifth in the second and third races to edge Stephen Donahue of Graniteville by one point in the combined standings. The victory was Woodard’s first of the season and the second of his career.
Mark Barnier of Essex Jct., Mike Martin of Craftsbury Common, and Cameron Ouellette of Barre rounded out the top 5. Tommy Smith of Williamstown, Brian Delphia of Duxbury, and Barnier won the Tiger individual 20-lap segments.
In the Allen Lumber Street Stocks, William Hennequin of Hardwick survived a red flag and four yellows to claim the victory in the 25-lap main event. The win was Hennequin’s second of the season, and the 11th of his career. A pair of rookies followed Hennequin across the finish line: Cooper Bouchard of Hinesburg and Peyton Lanphear of Duxbury.
Completing the top 10 for Street Stocks were Jaden Perry of Hardwick, Kyle Gravel of Wolcott, Kelsea Woodard of Waterbury Ctr., Greg Collette of Milton, Jamon Perry of Hardwick, Gary Mullen of Tunbridge, and Alan Maynard of Fairfax.
Racing action returns to Thunder Road on Thursday, August 25 for Jet Service/Accura Printing Night. The event features a full card of action for the Thunder Road Late Models, Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen, and Allen Lumber Street Stocks. Post time is 7:00 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults, $3 for kids ages 6-12, and $25 for a family of four (2 adults, 2 kids).
