BRIAN, DO YOU FEEL GOOD ABOUT COMING OUT OF WHITE MOUNTAIN MOTORSPORTS PARK WITH A TOP-5 FINISH?
We weren’t happy at all at the end of the race, I can tell you that, but a Top-5 was a good night overall. We had a good, solid car. We had a good run. It was fun driving it. It was a good night until the end.
We had a good solid run going. We were a little tight in the feature, but it wasn’t too bad. We had nothing for (winner Wayne Helliwell Jr.). He was in a class of his own. He did a good job and made us all look silly.
WHAT HAPPENED AT THE END OF THE NIGHT?
Austin (Theriault) simply muscled his way by me. I was in a tight battle with the 40 and the 97, as was he. I left just enough opening for him to wedge himself in there, and he sure did. I don’t deny that I left the opening. I hope when it’s all said and done the two points were worth it to him, because I’ll remember that.
He was no faster than we were. It is what it is, the facts are the facts. When I got muscled up the track, I looked and saw who it was. It got ugly from there. I got a little heated.
IS IT FRUSTRATING TO HAVE A TOP-5 NIGHT ONLY TO SEE THE GUYS YOU’RE CHASING IN THE STANDINGS STILL FINISH AHEAD OF YOU?
I think you obviously hope that when you’re in the Top-5, they’re not. Every race you’re hoping you’re gaining more points than they are. That’s just how it is. We know every year going in, we absolutely have our work cut out for us. (Point leader Wayne Helliwell) and those guys are raising the bar. That’s part of it.
We are working hard to try and make (the car) even better, but kudos to Wayne and his team. I’ve always enjoyed racing with him, he’s a great racer, and I’ve always had a lot of respect for Joey (Polewarczyk). Austin’s a great racer, too. They’ve all raised the bar. Good for them.
All we can control is ourselves. We’re going to go out and and try to finish in the Top-5 and win races from here on out. I know we have a team capable of doing that. It’s a long season still to go. Look at how far things got shuffled up at Oxford. They can get shuffled up fast.
