WHAT THEY ARE SAYING
JOEY DOIRON, Driver of the No. 73 JBJ Machine/Scarborough Downs Chevrolet, On heading to a new track this weekend: “I’ve never even been there, and I don’t know much about it. Talking to Dale (Shaw) – it’s a lot like Star (Speedway), at least in how you drive it. It’s a half-mile, so it’s a lot bigger than Star, but it’s similar in how you drive into the corners and off the corners.

“I enjoy going to new places, especially when it’s a new place for everybody. It puts everybody on an even playing field. For a while when we were new to this, we were just trying to get a handle on everywhere with a baseline setup to go to. When you go to a new track for everybody, it’s something that you have to change some stuff up. I think we’ll be pretty good. We’ve adapted pretty well over the last couple of years when we’ve gone to new places.”

On whether the team discovered what was causing excessive heat in the car at White Mountain Motorsports Park: “No. We took the motor to Rick Paya. He dynoed it, and I guess the carburetor was off a little bit. But we really have no idea what the problem was, so we have a whole new exhaust on it now.”

On how important it would be to the team to get a win in the final weeks of the season: “I think it’s important. In the middle of the season, we had fast cars but we didn’t have any luck. If we could pick up a win in one of these last four races, it would get everybody fired up for next year and get us firing on all eight cylinders as a team.

“If you look back through the year, except for Beech Ridge (in July), the weeks we’ve been off haven’t been really setup stuff. We’ve had a lot of bad luck – just being in the wrong place at the wrong time or having something go wrong that’s totally out of our control. Oxford, Seekonk – races like that – I think we had one of best cars at those places but didn’t get anything to show for it.”
