BRIAN, HOW WAS YOUR CAR DURING THE RACE?
We just missed the balance on the setup. We were loose in practice in the morning, but the track traditionally has tightened up during this race. We left it loose, but once we went green, I was, like, ‘Uh-oh.’
I had such a good run down the straightaway, I hit the rev chip way early in the straightaway and was still gaining on those guys in front of me. But it just wasn’t up to par today. That’s OK. All in all, it was a good finish, the car’s in one piece and I had a lot of fun.
HOW HAS THE RACING CHANGED IN THIS EVENT OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS?
I’ve got to hand it to (Invitational winner) Ray Parent and the team, they did a wonderful job, but they haven’t exactly been competing for wins (on the ACT Late Model Tour). They’ve been good at times, but it’s just another example of how competitive things have gotten here – they got out front, had some clean air and had a good race car. Joey (Polewarczyk) came from behind me to get up there and challenge him for the win.
I got passed by a lot of cars there early on. That’s just what it is. These guys are all getting really good. The only thing that worries me is ‘The Big One.’ We haven’t had that yet, but we have the capability to tear up an awful lot of cars here. We avoided that, but we can pile them up in a hurry if we’re not careful.
WAS IT A GOOD RACE DAY FOR YOU OVERALL?
It was a great race, and I’m sure the fans got a heck of a show out of it. It was a lot of fun. Fun – but it was nerve-wracking out there, too.
