DJ Robinson falls two laps short from claiming the checkers in the DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds.
Billy Simmons grabs 2nd Brass Ring Challenge in the DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes.
BRADFORD, VT – Over 50 kids from ages 2 to 14 signed up for the always anticipated and exciting kids’ bike races for the Interstate Battery of Newmont sponsored event Saturday August 2, 2014. The drivers were divided into four groups and depending on their age bracket went for a quarter lap to two complete laps for the checkers. Every kid there was of course a winner and who knows which one will be the future Chris Donnelly or Kevin Chaffee of the Ridge.
DJ Robinson looked poised to win his first ever event at the Ridge
in the DIRTcar Bond Auto Sportsman Modifieds dominating the majority of the event after taking the lead on lap one. Having made it victory lane as the bridesmaid and first runner up, Robinson is hungry to make it a full sweep. Unfortunately for Robinson Kevin Chaffee had other plans for the course of the night. Starting in the seventeenth position it took Chaffee 38 laps to work his way to the front. Chaffee took the lead away from Robinson with two to go and held him off for the win the third of the year for Chaffee. Robinson was able to hold on to second with Ed Patterson having struggled of late able to claim the third and final victory lane spot. Chris Donnelly came home in fourth with Gary Siemons rounding out the top five.
Billy Simmons likes have extra money on the line In the DIRTcar Wells River Chevrolet Pro Stock Sportsman Coupes. The Brass Ring Challenge had grown to two hundred dollars, and Simmons capitalizing on his outside pole position and a green to checkers event was able to grab the checkers and the ring. This is the second time this year that the challenge has been won and both times it went to Simmons. Jeff Robbins starting the third position stayed right with Simmons moving up to the second place spot. Jason Horniak finally had a good run and moved up from his fourth place starting spot to third. Teddy Salomaa and Logan Oliver rounded out the top five. Next week is the Coupe Madness event which is sure to offer plenty of racing excitement for the fans. As of press time the drivers have collected over 200 laps and are set to be competing for over $8000.00 in purse and lap money. Will Simmons be able to capitalize on this extra money event or will Josh Harrington get the monkey off his back and take home most of the gold?
The USAC DMA Midgets were off this week. They will be returning next week for the John Poor memorial night sponsored by Walker Motors.
It seemed to be full moon madness for the Laquerre’s Sports Limited Late Models. Several cautions slowed the pace of the twenty lap event and when the dust finally settled your current points leader Jason Giguere was able to keep his nose clean and come out on top. Rob Williams after taking a week off, was right back in form coming home in second with James Fadden claiming the final victory lane spot. Mike Greene III finished fourth with Derek Stearns coming home in fifth.
Charlie Lakin is trying desperately to close the gap between point leader Mike Ryan and himself. All season long the battle for the championship has been building between the two of them with the lead swapping back and forth. Currently Ryan sits on top and Lakin is doing everything he can to finish ahead of him. Tonight he did just that coming home the winner, but with Ryan finishing in the bridesmaid position Lakin can’t seem to close the gap. Joining them in victory lane was Rob Gioia the first fast four across the line. Hornets Cody Stearns and Chris LaForest completed the top five.
