Fadden Racing’s Joey Polewarczyk – Derailed In Late Race Accident
South Boston, Va. (April 5, 2010): Joey Polewarczyk had the confidence to bring home a top-10 finish in the South Boston 150 at South Boston Speedway Saturday afternoon. He just didn’t have the luck.
In his second NASCAR K&N Pro Series East start this season, Polewarczyk got caught up in an accident on lap 119 that resulted in front end damage that ended their day and left the team with a 21st place finish.
Polewarczyk started the No. 16 Fadden Racing Chevrolet in the 13th position after qualifying with a speed of 88.485 mph (16.274 seconds). He remained in the top-15 for the first half of the race as he let things sort out.
“I was pretty much riding there for a while and saving our stuff,” said Polewarczyk. “We were running decent and then the car just went away.”
The team began to pit during what few caution periods there were to adjust on the No. 16 Chevrolet, which put Polewarczyk in the back of the pack for a restart at lap 116. Coming around turn four on lap 119, Polewarczyk got caught up in a wreck that involved more than four cars.
“They started wrecking in turn four but the 17 car just jacked me up and I kept going until hit those guys on the frontstretch,” Polewarczyk explained. “There was only 30 laps to go when that happened.”
“It ripped the lower hose off the radiator,” said Olsen. “That finished us. He was decent and then everything turned around on us. It’s frustrating because we had high hopes. Joey is a good driver and he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Polewarczyk will pilot the No. 16 Fadden Racing Chevrolet again at Iowa Speedway on May 23 for the East-West Challenge. Despite the frustration from the opening two races, everyone remains optimistic to turn things around.
“I was struggling with the car off the corner,” said Polewarczyk about the South Boston 150. “We had been running so good. This team is better than running in the back, and I’m better than that. Bad luck happens to everybody so hopefully we’ve got all of it out of the way so the rest of the races are good.”
The South Boston 150 will air on SPEED Channel on April 15 at 6 p.m. ET.
