RYAN POSOCCO AND WOODY PITKAT SEPARATED BY ONLY 4 POINTS WITH 2 RACES TO GO
IN LATE MODEL CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHT
(Stafford Springs, CT)—In the blink of an eye, the race for the 2010
Stafford Motor Speedway Late Model championship has come down to two former
champions only 4 points apart with 2 races to go. Just several races ago,
Ryan Posocco had what looked to be a comfortable 48 point lead over Woody
Pitkat. But Pitkat has won the last 2 Late Model feature events while
Posocco finished 6th and 18th in the last 2 races to see his point lead
dwindled down from 48 to 4 points heading into the Final Friday Night
Shoot-Out this Friday night and the season ending CARQUEST Fall Final
Weekend on Oct. 2nd and 3rd.
“Stuff happens in racing, everyone on the team is pretty disgusted with how
the last 2 weeks have gone for us,” said Posocco. “We started off the
season with a couple of rough weeks and we were able to climb out of that
hole during the summer and now it seems like we’re back to where we were in
the beginning of the year with bad luck. It should be a fun last couple of
races for the championship.”
“I haven’t been looking at that,” said Pitkat. “It was a longshot for us,
but we just keep coming to win races and the points will fall where they
fall. I was talking with Pat [Kretschman] about that last week about how
hard it was to gain points and Pat told me that I better not give up because
anything can happen. We never give up, we come here to win races and that’s
what we’re going to keep on doing. I actually think it’s harder to lead
than it is to chase, so right now we’re trying to do the best we can and we’
re focused on winning races. I can’t thank my crew guys enough. We wrecked
during the 100 lapper and we finished sixth and this past Friday night, the
brake rotor exploded and they worked their butts off to get the car fixed
and we won the race.”
Posocco and his crew will have a long week of work ahead of them in order to
have his car ready for the final 2 races of the season as he crashed hard
into the turn 2 wall this past Friday night.
“We broke something in the rear end during the first caution this past
Friday night and the guys had to make some MacGyverish moves Friday night
just to get the car back out onto the track and then we ended up in the
wall. We got stuck in the outside at the start of the race and then the
rear end broke. We’re definitely going to have a lot of work ahead of us in
the shop this week. Our strategy is to keep the car out of the fence and go
to the track to win and if we can’t win get the best finish possible. That’
s what has gotten us to where we are right now and that’s what will get us
to where we want to be.”
There are 2 races left on the Stafford schedule. The Final Friday Night
Shoot-Out this Friday night, September 17th, and the CARQUEST Fall Final
Weekend on October 2nd and 3rd. Each race victory is worth 50 points and
the points decrease by 2 points per position, meaning that Posocco and
Pitkat are separated by only 2 positions with 2 races left on the 2010
schedule.
