Mohegan Sun Not Returning;
Kobyluck Moves Forward With 2011 Plans
Uncasville, Conn. (October 12, 2010): Mohegan Sun Casino together with 2008 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Champion Matt Kobyluck announced today that Mohegan Sun, the longest running continuous sponsor in series history, will not return to the team as primary sponsor for the 2011 season. Mohegan Sun has realigned its business priorities for 2011.
“Matt Kobyluck, Kobyluck Enterprises Inc and the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East have been great partners and a viable market for Mohegan Sun, and it’s definitely something we will revisit in the future,” said Mitchell Etess, President and CEO of Mohegan Sun Casino.
Kobyluck and Mohegan Sun Casino entered the series in 1998, and together, have become one of the most successful and respected teams competing in NASCAR’s regional level tier. Under the Mohegan Sun banner, Kobyluck has made 178 career starts and achieved such record-setting accolades as a series championship in 2008, 16 career victories, 61 top-five, and 95 top-10 finishes. Kobyluck is only one of two drivers to have multiple victories in the prestigious NASCAR Toyota All Star Showdown and he was the first Native American to ever win a NASCAR title.
“For 15 years, we’ve enjoyed an incredible partnership with Mohegan Sun,” said Matt Kobyluck, owner of Kobyluck Enterprises Inc. “The economic climate is extremely difficult at this time and I understand their departure in light of that. I’m very appreciative and extremely fortunate to have had this relationship. Together we’ve accomplished many great things, most importantly, our history making championship for the Mohegan Tribe in 2008. We’ve enjoyed much success, and none of it would have been possible without the support of Mohegan Sun. Everyone there – the employees, the executives, the tribal members – have been so supportive of this race team and everything we’ve done. Their relationship is more than just business – they are a family to us. I’ve been honored and very proud to represent Mohegan Sun and The Mohegan Tribe and I know that our team and our fans will miss the familiarity of them on this car. We’ll miss all of them but they will always be a part of this team. I look forward to revisiting our partnership in the future but presently I am focused on cultivating new opportunities for the team.”
The marketing team at Kobyluck Enterprises Inc is currently working to secure a new primary sponsor for the team and is moving forward with plans of competing in 2011.
“I’m confident that we can get something put together for the 2011 season, but funding clearly dictates this sport,” said Kobyluck. “We’d like to continue the success we’ve had in NASCAR, and at the same time, give a strong marketing platform to a company that would like to share in that success and beyond.”
