Moultonboro, NH – With 23 inches of ice on Lee Pond and a forecast of warm weather, the Lakes Region Ice Racing ran it’s eight event of the 2011 season. The ice was good, but the warm weather and rain caused a fog and standing water that reduced visibility. After the first four heat races, the race officials decided to cancel the rest of the day’s racing for driver safety.

The heat races got under way at 12:30 with Chris Taylor (8) of Moultonboro winning the Junior heat, Tim Chase (40) taking the Rear Wheel Drive heat, Stephen Smith (41) of Rochester winning the Front Wheel Drive qualifier, and Mike Frank of Moultonboro driving the 03 Monte Carlo winning a hard fought Sock division qualifying heat. The Modified division took the track for qualifying, but after some test laps and a review of the deteriorating track conditions the club officials called the event.

The Lakes Region Ice Racing Club hosts events on Berry and Lee Ponds in the Moultonboro. Members of the New England Ice Racing Association, which holds events in Milton area, joined us this week due to poor conditions at their venue. They brought some great cars.

If the ice conditions and the weather permit, the Lakes Region Ice Racing Club plans to race next Sunday at 12:30 on Lee Pond off Rt 25 in Moultonboro. Be sure to check the club’s website at LakesRegionIceRacingClub.com for the latest race/ice status, information about coming events, and for race photos. See you on the ice.
