East Coast Snocross to have strong presence on 2011 NEATV Tour
CHESHIRE, Conn. (May 12, 2011) – When snowmobile addicts finally have to put the sleds away and endure another long summer, there is one machine that provides the adrenaline rush and can deliver that racing fix necessary to get by. It’s known as the All Terrain Vehicle, or ATV, and they’ve come a long way since those first heavy, cumbersome units hit the trail.
Two forms of powersports racing will join forces this summer, as East Coast Snocross (ECS) will have a strong presence on the New England ATV (NEATV-MX) racing circuit. The ECS office trailer will be on-site at every race (housing the DRT Racing squad), with circuit information readily available. The 2011-12 snocross schedule will be available by late summer.
This marketing partnership is a natural fit, given the huge crossover between ATV racers and fans, and those same groups who compete in or follow snowmobile racing. For years, snocross racers used motocross to stay in shape during the off-season, yet with ATVs gaining in both popularity and technology, racers are giving the sport some serious consideration.
The same goes for those who race ATVs all summer taking a look at snocross as a viable sport for the winter months. Veteran athletes like 2010 AMA ATV-MX Champion Josh Creamer are testing the waters of snocross — and the hope is that more will follow. Creamer, a native of Connecticut, will compete on the NEATV circuit in 2011 for the powerhouse Motorworks/DWT team. To say he’ll be a threat for the title is a huge understatement, and his potential in snocross is unlimited.
Creamer ran the final ECS points race of 2011 at Pico Mountain in Killington, Vermont earlier this month. The ATV star was aboard an Arctic Cat owned by Nate Tatro (with support from Mike Kolety at Arctic Cat) at Pico, and he absolutely loved the experience. His desire is to compete full-time on the ECS circuit next winter.
With this new partnership between the two sanctioning bodies, more ATV riders will be exposed to just what snocross has to offer.
“We know the NEATV-MX circuit is the largest regional tour in the nation, and features the top riders” said Shawn Longbook, general manager at ECS. “Josh is a very high-profile racer, and super-talented one, at that. We were excited when he showed an interest in snocross, and he really loves our sport. We want to be visible all summer in front of other people who may enjoy our sport, as well. This should be a win-win situation for both ECS and NEATV. I’m anxious to attend a race and hear some chatter about our sport.”
The New England ATV-MX series will contest Round 2 on the 2011 schedule this Sunday, May 15, at Capeway Rovers in Middleboro, Massachusetts. Dustin Wimmer swept the Pro classes in the season opener on May 1 at Walden MX Park in Walkill, New York. To follow all the action this season, be sure to bookmark www.neatv-mx.com.
East Coast Snocross, presented by Woody’s Traction and AMSOIL, is the sanctioning body for snowmobile racing in the northeastern United States. ECS maintains a regional circuit intended to keep grass-roots snocross racing healthy in this part of the snowbelt, while also cultivating new talent for tomorrow’s factory-backed Pro teams.
ECS completed its inaugural nine-race season in 2010-11 with positive reviews from every angle, giving reason for optimism as the sport moves forward.
