“This weekend’s Grand-Am Road Racing Memorial Day Classic at Lime Rock Park will present new and interesting challenges for our Chevy Camaro teams in both the Rolex Sports Car Series GT and the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge GS.
“In GT, we have a new weight requirement for our Camaro GT.R race cars. Our three teams are very confident that they will easily adapt to the added weight and they will continue to be extremely competitive.
“Our GS.R Camaros will benefit from the removal of the engine inlet restrictor as well as the approved use of the rear blade spoiler offered through GM Performance Parts. These changes will definitely help our teams be closer to the competition in the tightly contested class.
“In DP, it is a delicate balance of managing the great Chevy power of our small block V8 engines and putting the handling package under the drivers to navigate the intricate track. There is no reason we can’t have one or more of our three teams on the podium at the end of the 2.75-hour race.
“Lime Rock Park is one of the most difficult tracks on the Grand-Am schedule. It is often referred to as a bullring and is unlike any other track on the circuit. The Connecticut circuit is only 1.5 miles long with three medium speed right-hand (RH) corners, two high speed RH corners, one medium speed left-hand (LH) corner, and a chicane. The track was resurfaced in 2008 and is fairly smooth. Barber and VIR were tracks that required a mostly symmetric car, but Lime Rock will benefit from an asymmetric setup. The lack of straight sections mean Lime Rock may be hard on tires. The track is very difficult to pass on, and the main straight is the primary passing zone. If you are forced to pit under green flag conditions, you can easily go a lap down due to the length of the track.
“The Lime Rock Park event begins what could be termed as a marathon month of June for our Chevrolet Grand-Am teams. They will have one day to make repairs and changes to the cars before heading immediately to Watkins Glen International and then on to Road America.
“It will be an exciting weekend of competition for teams and fans alike at Lime Rock Park. The combined effort of our General Motors engineers and the expertise of our Chevrolet teams should give us a great opportunity for success in the fifth event of the season.”
