AUSTIN, THIS HAS TO BE ENCOURAGING FOR YOU.

We’re finally turning the corner.I don’t want to jinx myself, but I think we are finally coming around and the two teams are coming together and we’re finally setting cars up the way I like to drive them. So I’m pretty pumped up. The guys worked their butts off and we had a good night overall.
What a difference a year makes. Coming back to the track, I really didn’t know what to expect because we didn’t even race 150 laps (at this race last year). I’m really pumped up about the finish.

DID YOU HAVE ANYTHING FOR THE LEADERS AT THE END?

We had a really strong car. I’ll go out on a limb and say that we probably had a fourth-place car. I know we were chasing down those guys at the end. We just ran out of time.

IT SEEMED THE KEY FOR YOU WAS PATIENCE, ESPECIALLY EARLY ON.

Yeah, especially in that first half of the race. The thing here is that when you start on the outside, you’re really boxed in everywhere. On a couple of the restarts I waited and waited and then once I got my hole I just dove down.
I waited on the bottom and waited for the other cars. Some guys really loosened up, and some guys couldn’t hold the bottom and we were able to shoot off down low and get by them.
