Hudson, NH – After three weeks of rainouts Hudson Speedway opened its gates with sunny skies above this past Sunday.
Peter Fiandaca renumbered his Outlaw Sportsman mount in honor of Barnrat Devaney, who passed away the previous week. After winning his heat in the #222, Fiandaca brought members of the Devaney family trackside and dedicated his race to Devaney. Devaney was a longtime Hudson supporter credited with forming the successful V-6 Supers division.
The Outlaw Sportsman main event lived up to its reputation as a wild must see race. After a few cautions for multiple car spins, Bobby Allen held the lead with Mitch Wendell beside him on the final restart. Allen and Wendell spent the last five laps of the race side by side and trading paint in the corners. Allen pulled away on the final lap, leaving Wendell in second with Sandy Lee, Fiandaca, Shane Gendron, Lee Weldy, Chris Lee, John Meany, Geoff Macgivery and Matt Kawejsza the rest of the top ten.
Allen Reiser Jr. chased Keith Caruso for most of the V-6 Modified feature finally passing him with four to go, but a Eric Vilande spin brought out a caution putting Caruso back in front for the restart. Reiser Jr. finished a disappointing second behind Caruso with Chris Kuebler, Vilande, and Walter Boucher rounding out the top five.
Derek Griffith overcame an offtrack excursion to take home the checkers in the Thunder Lite Youth Division. Shawna Randall placed second, Bobby Stirk, Gage Harron, and Dylan Bilodeau the top five.
The Rookie Stock main had a finish much like the Outlaws with Dean Wendell challenging two time champion Scotty Duval for the lead in the closing laps. Wendell got to the outside of Duval but wasn’t able to finish it off, settling for second just a car length behind Duvall. John Swain, John Morin Jr., Charlie Coombs were the rest of the top five.
Louis Maher won the Roadrunner feature, followed by Jef James, John Pilvelis, Loren Smith Jr., and Patrick D’Alba in the top five.
Enduros were won by Jef James in the 4 cylinders and Dan Yagrin in the Grand Enduro.
Ron Lord Jr. won the Spectator One on One drags, Danny Angrove won the Flagpole race and the Spectator race was won by Bob Dembroski.
Racing resumes next Sunday July 12 at 6 PM with Northeast Classic Lites, V-6 Modifieds, Rookies, Roadrunners, Thunder Lites, Spectator One on One Drags, Flagpole Race, and the always exciting Spectator race. For more info please visit www.starspeedway.com.
