BRADFORD, VT – The USAC Dirt Midget Association (DMA) is the subject of a two page story in the September issue of Dick Berggren’s Speedway Illustrated magazine.

Written and photographed by Dr. Dick Berggren himself, the article describes the affordability of a USAC Dirt Midget and the success DMA has had at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, VT.

“The DMA cars at Bear Ridge are surely a bit of old-time racing when people raced for the fun of it,” Berggren wrote. “As was the case in those days, the drivers race just as hard for trophies as for big money.”

The USAC DMA was formed to provide the Midgets that previously raced at the now defunct Whip City Speedway with a new venue. All three of the principals are members of the New England Auto Racing Hall of Fame and all three were highlighted in Berggren’s article.

Skip Matczak has been a Sprint Car and Supermodified owner and is a multi time championship winning owner at Oswego Speedway. He owns three USAC DMA Midgets.

No stranger to open cockpit racing, Denny Zimmerman was the 1971 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year. He pilots one of Matczak’s Midgets.

Asphalt Modified veteran Ray Miller owns two cars and has raced one of them to a number of podium finishes. The 69 year old currently sits third in USAC DMA points.

The USAC DMA Midgets have two more appearances this season at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, VT –Saturday nights September 10 and 24.
