South Plattsburgh, NY – Airborne Speedway will open its 2012 stock car racing season Sunday afternoon April 29 – 2 p.m. with a five-division race card highlighted by the Econo Lodge 50 for DIRTcar Modifieds. The 59th season opener will include the debut of the new Adirondack Water Systems Modified Sportsman class.

“We decided on an afternoon program knowing it’ll more likely be warmer than on a Saturday night in April,” promoter Mike Perrotte said. “I’m confident the introduction of the Modified Sportsmen will be good for the fans, the racers and the track,” he added.

Opening day will mark the beginning of track championship defenses for J&S Steel Limited Late Model (formerly Sportsman) champion Robin Wood of Plattsburgh and Versatile Trailer Sales Renegade champion Kevin Boutin of Fairfax, VT.

Airborne will move to a 5 p.m. start for Saturday races May 5, 12 and 19. The first event in the USA/Canada Limited Late Model Masters Series is slated for May 12. “I think you’ll see quite a few teams from St.-Eustache at our opener in preparation for the May 12 series race,” Perrotte said.

Airborne will be busy Memorial Day weekend. Saturday’s May 26 race card includes a 50-lap Renegade special event. Sunday, May 27, the Monster Trucks return to Plattsburgh for appearances at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. The Monster Trucks have a rain date in place – Monday, May 28.

One of the biggest events on the 2012 schedule – the $3,000-to-win, 75-lap DIRTcar Modified Series will be held Wednesday, June 20. Airborne Speedway and Dunn Tire Raceway Park in Lancaster, NY, will each host two events in the four-race DIRTcar 358-Modified series, which offers a combined purse of $60,000.
