Mini Stock racer Bradford sets new consecutive win record for asphalt track

WEST HAVEN, VT – Stock car racing’s youth movement took a back seat at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Friday, September 4, as the elder statesmen showed the way. Leon Gonyo drove to his fourth win of the season to highlight the Heritage Family Credit Union “Member Night” program for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series presented by Yandow Sales & Service and John Deere. Other winners included Bobby Therrien, Robert Gordon, and Chuck Bradford, though all results in all divisions have been deemed unofficial pending technical inspection and review.

Driving a car with the familiar number 4 on its doors, Chazy, NY veteran Gonyo blasted away from the field to grab his fourth Bond Auto Parts Modified victory of the year in the 30-lap main event. Rookie Bob Kilburn had the best showing of his freshman year by leading the first 11 laps before the race’s lone caution period, after which Gonyo seized the lead and cruised to an easy win.

(Stafford Springs, CT)—The Valenti Modified Racing Series made its final visit of thte 2015 season to Stafford Motor Speedway for the 6th Annual VMRS 80. Chris Pasteryak took the lead from Woody Pitkat on a restart with 20 laps to go and then held Pitkat off to the checkered flag to pick up his 5th VMRS feature win of the 2015 season.

The race began with Dylan Kopec taking the lead from the pole with Norm Wrenn, Rowan Pennink, Todd Szeged, and Keith Rocco making up the top-5. The caution came out with 6 laps complete as Dan Meservey took a spin through the frontstretch infield.
Kopec took the lead back under green and he held the lead until lap-9 when Rowan Pennink moved to the front. Pennink’s time out front was short lived as Todd Szegedy took the lead on lap-12, but his time at the front was even shorter than Pennink’s as Woody Pitkat took over the lead on lap-13. By lap-20, Pitkat was still in the lead with Szegedy in second and Ted Christopher third. Keith Rocco was fourth and Kopec had fallen back to fifth.

(Stafford Springs, CT)— Stafford Speedway returned to NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing action with the Valenti Modified Racing Series in the house for the 6th Annual VMRS 80. Taking down weekly feature wins on the night were Woody Pitkat in the SK Modified® feature, Tom Fearn in the Late Model feature, Daniel Wesson in the SK Light feature, David Arute in the Ltd. Late Model feature, Frank L’Etoile, Jr. in the DARE Stock feature, and Mikey Flynn in the Legend Cars feature.

In the 40-lap SK Modified® feature event, Eric Berndt went from third on the grid straight into a side by side fight with Jeremy Sorel for the race lead. They ran the first two laps side by side with Sorel holding the lead at the line by a nose but Berndt took the lead on lap-3. Michael Gervais, Jr. was now second with Ted Christopher third as Sorel was sliding backwards. Joey Cipriano took fourth and Ryan Preece took fifth on lap-6 as Sorel was back to sixth.

Barre, VT – Thunder Road will crown its division champions this Sunday, September 6 at the 37th Labor Day Classic 200 this Sunday. The oldest event in Thunder Road’s history doubles as the final point-counting event of the 2015 season for Thunder Road Late Models, Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen, and Allen Lumber Street Stocks, leaving much on the line this Sunday.

The Labor Day Classic, which dates back to 1960, is the longest and most prestigious event of the weekly season for the Thunder Road Late Models. Many drivers will be looking for their first entry on one of the granite monuments that stand at Thunder Road for winners of the Labor Day Classic, Memorial Day Classic, and Vermont Milk Bowl.

Extra payout, extra laps in all divisions at asphalt championship finale

WEST HAVEN, VT – Devil’s Bowl Speedway is putting up big money for its annual Mekkelsen RV Vermont 200 Championship Weekend on September 12-13. The season finale for the Rutland County asphalt half-mile oval will boast extra-distance races for fans and extra cash for drivers as it crowns the champions of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series presented by Yandow Sales & Service and John Deere.

More than $29,000 in total prize money – nearly triple the regular weekly purse – has been posted for the two-day show. Devil’s Bowl’s home track favorites in four divisions will square off against each other as they run after the track championships, and they will likely face a handful of outside invaders as well.
