Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park’s premier division to return for Sunoco Modified 20/20 Sprint

The Sunoco Modifieds will be in the spotlight at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park (TSMP) for their second annual 20/20 Sprint event on Whelen Night, Wednesday, July 29th.

The Sunoco Modified 20/20 Sprint, presented by King Cadillac GMC will feature a three segment race for the open-wheel division, with the lowest overall point total taking the victory. The first segment will be based upon current points standings, and will be 20 laps in distance. The second segment will be a complete inversion of lead lap cars setting the field, and will also consist of 20 laps. The third and final segment will be lined up by fastest lap times from the first segment, but will only be a 10 lap sprint for the win. This format has been used for both the Late Model and Sunoco Modified divisions at TSMP, and has resulted in high energy wheel-to-wheel action.

Todd Szegedy Prepared for Call Before You Dig 150 at Stafford Speedway

staffordTodd Szegedy Prepared for Call Before You Dig 150 at Stafford Speedway

(Stafford Springs, CT)—While 2003 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Champion Todd Szegedy has always looked forward to racing at Stafford, he is especially looking forward to coming back to the Connecticut half-mile facility after picking up not only his first win of the 2015 season at Loudon, but his first win together with the Bob Garbarino owned #4 Mystic Missile team.

“Stafford has always been a good track for me and my goal for this year was to get four top-5 finishes and we’re halfway to achieving that goal,” said Szegedy. “It’s a good racing track and it’s a good drivers track so I enjoy coming to Stafford. That was a big deal to win at Loudon. It’s big to win any race and it was nice to get our first win together. That race was extra special for me because in 2013, I took a win away from Donny Lia at Loudon, who was driving Bob’s car at the time. By winning that race, I feel like I gave a win back to those guys. I think it’s very possible for us to win a couple more races this season but it’s also going to be very tough to do that. Getting our first win out of the way was a great feeling but there are a lot of great drivers and teams on the Whelen Modified Tour.”

(Stafford Springs, CT)—With only three more races before the conclusion of the 2015 Call Before You Dig 811 Challenge, drivers will be scrambling to accumulate as many points as they can without going over 811 to receive an $811 bonus from Call Before You Dig.

The CBYD 811 Challenge is a competition open to all NASCAR Whelen All-American Series drivers at Stafford where drivers accumulate a point total based on a points system that awards 100 points for a victory and 5 points less for each subsequent position. The goal is to be one of five drivers who comes the closest to accumulating 811 points without going over to win an $811 bonus from CBYD. The CBYD 811 Challenge began at the 44th Annual NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler on April 24-26 and culminates on August 7 with the Call Before You Dig 150 Whelen Modified Tour event. The five drivers who come the closest to accumulating 811 points without going over will each take home an $811 bonus from CBYD, for a total of $4055. Due to the unprecedented amount of consecutive events completed since April, half points were awarded beginning with the June 26 event.

Plattsburgh, NY – Joey Doiron continued his strong summer this past weekend at Airborne Speedway in one of the Pro All Stars Series biggest races this past weekend at the Airborne Speedway, another race in the PASS National championship series which includes heavy hitters from both the North and the South. Just a few weeks after capturing the inaugural PASS event at Thunder Road and winning the Pro Series 125 at Beech Ridge, Doiron dominated the International 500 event on his way to his third win of the season. Doiron lead for a third of the event, and beat out some of the best in the business, including Brian Hoar and Patrick Laperle at the finish, taking home over $11,000 in the process.

“I knew we had a great car today, the car was great in practice and I knew if we saved our stuff a little bit we’d be there at the end,” Doiron said of the win, “Turns out we had a tire going down at the end, and for the last five or ten laps it was definitely flat, the car started to drag the nose a little bit with about 40 to go and it hadn’t done that all race so I knew something was up, I’m just glad we didn’t have a yellow at the end.” (more…)
