TSMP to Welcome Mike Joy as Honored Guest at Vintage Motorsports Festival
THOMPSON, CT – This weekend – June 27-29 – celebrates the grand re-opening of Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park’s (TSMP) road course, and the 74 year history of the track with the inaugural Vintage Motorsports Festival. This three-day event would not be complete without one of today’s top TV sports announcers, and Vintage automotive enthusiast, Mike Joy, who grew his career at Thompson Speedway 40 years ago.
Mike Joy, who currently serves as the lap-by-lap voice of Fox Sports’ NASCAR Sprint Cup coverage, began his public address work at New England racetracks including Riverside Park Speedway, Thompson Speedway and Stafford Motor Speedway in the early seventies. Announcing regularly five nights a week, he was eventually picked up by MRN (Motor Racing News). Other highlights in his career include being lead broadcaster for ESPN’s first live NASCAR telecast in the Atlanta Journal 500 at Atlanta International Raceway, and covering Fox’s Formula 1 broadcast in 1998. He was also voted the 2011 recipient of the Henry T McLemore Award, given annually to award career excellence in motorsports journalism.

Thompson, Conn: Tommy Barrett of Millis, Mass. used an exciting last lap pass to take the win in the Valenti Modified Racing Series 75-lap feature at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park. Winners in NASCAR Whelen All American Series action included a sweep by Ryan Preece of Berlin, Conn. in the Sunoco Modified division, Glenn Boss of Danielson, Conn. in the Late Models, Shawn Monahan of Waterford, Conn. in the Xtra Mart Limited Sportsman division, and Chad Baxter in the Monster Mini Stocks. Scott Quinn checkered the Vintage Outlaw feature event.
Barrett patiently awaited the right moment to make a pass on Todd Szegedy for the win in the King Cadillac GMC 75 Valenti Modified Racing Series feature Thursday night. Barrett becomes the fourth different winner this season.

Following it’s customary spring break, Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park (TSMP) will be back in action on Thursday, May 15, with it’s four NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions and the Lite Modifieds for Food Bank Night, benefiting ACCESS Agency and TEEG.
The Late Model Division will take center stage as they will participate in their segment race. Labeled the “20/20 Sprint,” TSMP’s top-tier fendered division will be showcased in three races, determining one overall winner. The first two races, which will be championship points events – will be 20 laps in distance, and the final sprint will only be 10 laps. A separate point system, crediting drivers with points based upon finishing position, will be used to determine the overall winner. At the end of the total 50-laps, the driver with the lowest number of points will take home the $1,200.00 winner’s purse. The total purse boasts over $7,000 not including special awards.

THOMPSON, CT: Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park (TSMP) announced today the No. 1 team that competes in the Late Model Division has been penalized as a result of rules violations committed April 6 at the Icebreaker, presented by Town Fair Tire.
The No. 1 car was found to be in violation of the ACT Late Model Crate Engine package (flywheel and external balancing).
Keith Rocco, driver, of the No. 1 car, has been disqualified from his finishing position and will receive no purse money.

Justin Bonsignore NWMT Winner
Thompson, Conn: Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park opened the season in grand style with Keith Rocco of Berlin, Conn. earning two NASCAR Whelen All American Series wins in one day in both the Sunoco Modified and Late Model divisions. Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville, N.Y. took the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour win over Woody Pitkat. Shawn Monahan of Waterford, Conn. earned his second in as many days in the Xtra Mart Limited Sportsman division while Steve Dickey, Jr. of Londonderry, N.H. checkered the Monster Mini Stocks. Mike O’Sullivan of Springfield, Mass. won the Granite State Pro Stock Series 50-lap affair and Vintage Outlaw checkers flew for Joe Baxter of Pascoag, R.I.

(Thompson, CT) – The learning curve at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park for young racer Derek Griffith was a short one as the Hudson, New Hampshire native made his first ever trip to the Northeastern Connecticut race track and came away with an impressive eighth-place finish
Participating in the 40th Annual Ice Breaker Saturday qualifying heat races, Derek get into a little incident during his race, which resulted in some bent up suspension parts and with less than a day to complete the repairs, the No. 12 Motorcycles of Manchester/LCM Racing/Tyngsboro Motors Toyota Camry crew had quite a bit of work to do.
