WORLD SERIES THIS WEEKEND AT THOMPSON

ThompsonThe weekend that every race fan in the northeast looks forward to is this weekend at the Thompson International Speedway. The Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing presented by Town Fair Tire and Xtra Mart kicks off this coming Friday and runs through Sunday.

Sixteen different divisions of race cars and trucks will converge on the historic speedway to draw down the curtain on the 2012 racing season. The World Series of Speedway Racing is three days of non-stop activity on the race track and hours of fun and social activities for the fans. The entire weekend is a huge race and party weekend as fans say good bye to another year of auto racing.

THREE DRIVERS HEAD TO THOMPSON WITH WMT CHAMPIONSHIP HOPES

THOMPSON, CT. The 2012 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour championship will once again be decided at the Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing at the Thompson International Speedway. Going into the final event, three drivers are still very much in the hunt for the title with only 18 points separating all three.

Doug Coby has lead the points chase much of the season but goes into the final event of the year at Thompson with an advantage of only 17 points over Ryan Preece. Only 1 point behind Preece is the defending WMT champion, Ron Silk. Anyone of these three could emerge with the 2012 WMT crown following a tough 150-lap race on Sunday, October 14th.

2012 ISMA CHAMPIONSHIP WILL GO DOWN TO THE WIRE AT THOMPSON

ThompsonTwo races remain on the 2012 International Supermodified Association (ISMA) tour, this Saturday’s Seekonk 200 at Seekonk (Mass.) Speedway and the annual season closer Oct. 13 and 14 at Connecticut’s Thompson Int’l Speedway as a part of the track’s big World Series of Racing event.

Entering this weekend’s showdown at Seekonk, four drivers have a shot at the prestigious 2012 ISMA Drivers Championship, and all of them are seeking their first ISMA title.

Canadian Mike Lichty holds a slim 31-point lead over Independence, Ohio, supermodified veteran Tim Jedrzejek, who drives for the Central New York-based Soule Racing team.

THOMPSON IS GEARING UP FOR WORLD SERIES

With the Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing presented by Town Fair Tire and Xtra Mart only three weeks away, the Thompson International Speedway if in full swing preparing for the incredible three-day racing spectacular.

This year’s World Series event, October 12-14, will be the biggest World Series ever with special attention directed to the Saturday night portion of the program. In previous years, roughly half of the participating divisions ran their feature events on Saturday night in front of large crowds who enjoyed the incredible diversity of race cars and race trucks. This year, that same Saturday night fun will be significantly increased with the addition of a Valenti Modified Racing Series 75-lap feature event. Divisions that will be part of the feature event lineup on Saturday will qualify on Friday except for the Valenti Modifieds. VRMS competitors will qualify and race on Saturday. The divisions racing on Sunday will qualify early Saturday afternoon.

THOMPSON DECLARES 2012 TRACK CHAMPIONS

The 2012 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series track champions at Thompson International Speedway have been named following the conclusion of the regular weekly race programs. The final review of the points standings for each race run since the season-opening Icebreaker has been completed and a champion for each of the track’s seven racing divisions has been declared.

Ryan Preece, the 21 year old from Berlin, CT., claimed the Sunoco Modified title. The track’s premier division ran 19 races in the 2012 season and Preece won 10 of them. He managed to bank some 922 track points in the process and, in so doing, bested some of the most talented Modified drivers in the northeast. Preece had an outstanding year driving for Al and Kathy Moniz of North Falmouth, MA. Veteran Kerry Malone, the 2008 division champ, finished second and was followed by Rookie Dennis Perry, 2003 and 2010 champ, Ted Christopher and the 2006 title holder, Woody Pitkat.

Pitkat Wraps Up Thompson Regular Season with Exciting Sunoco Mod Victory

Thompson, CT (September 16, 2012): Thompson International Speedway concluded the 2012 regular season with a Twi-Nite Special featuring seven divisions of NASCAR All-American Series action. Woody Pitkat of Stafford Springs, CT, sent the season out in style winning a thriller in the Sunoco Modified regular season finale at Thompson. Larry Gelinas of Buxton, ME, was opportunistic in his Super Late Model feature event win.

It was a commanding victory for Cam McDermott of Scituate, RI, in the Sunoco Lite Modifieds on Sunday night. After tasting a first-career victory a week ago, Damon Tinio added to his tally with his second straight Late Model win.

Jesse Gleason of Lisbon, CT, scored top honors in the Limited Sportsman division.
A top-five finish in the Limited Sportsman division netted Scott Sundeen of Douglas, MA, not only the divisional champions but also a (unofficially) NASCAR National championship. Jay Sundeen capped off a strong night for his racing family with a victory in the TIS Modifieds.
