Welch, Stearns Heat Up Heading To Beech Ridge
Both Banking On Crazy Horse’s Flat-Track Success This Week
SOUTH PARIS, Maine – When Quinny Welch ran headlong into misfortune last weekend, it may have served to fuel an old adage: “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.”
Welch, who had reeled off two straight wins at White Mountain Motorsports Park, was collected when the leaders wrecked on the final lap while running in the Top-5 at the track last Saturday night. He never saw the checkered flag. But with the help of his own crew and some others, Welch pulled an all-nighter and made repairs to his No. 78 IBEW Local 104 Chevrolet – then hauled over to Canaan Fair Speedway to finish sixth in the Subway Fresh Fit 150 on Sunday.
Now, Welch will have Crazy Horse Racing give the car a good once-over this week before entering the ACT Late Model Tour Beech Ridge 150 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine, this Saturday night.

Scarborough, ME
Saturday’s NASCAR Nite Pro Series 50-lap feature event was won by Newcastle’s Charlie Colby. Colby has become the only driver to land three wins in the top-level division this season.
At the drop of the green, Durham’s Evan Beaulieu, paced the 24-car field to the green flag and lead the first lap, however was overtaken by Mike Maietta, Jr, of South Portland, the following lap. Maietta led until a caution on lap three which bunched the field back together. On the restart, Maietta maintained his lead over Beaulieu and led until lap nine, when the second caution of the event flew.
Bill Rodgers, of Old Orchard Beach, safely maneuvered his way to the runner-up spot by the caution after starting in his 6th starting spot. Maietta battled side-by-side with Rodgers on the restart for the top position, but was passed by Rodgers when he was able to gain momentum going into the fourth corner.

Scarborough, ME – Saturday’s NASCAR Nite Pro Series 40-lap feature event winner was won by Alan Tardiff, of Lyman.
At the drop of the green, Durham’s Evan Beaulieu, paced the 19-car field to the green flag and led until lap six when Tardiff captured the lead from the rookie. Tardiff, who started 6th in the feature event was able to gain momentum going into the corner to take the lead from Beaulieu.
Tardiff, led for one lap until a caution flew on lap eight that bunched the field back together. He maintained his lead on the restart, and led until a second caution flew the following lap. Rookie Nick Cusack, of Scarborough, challenged Tardiff for lead on the second restart, but was unsuccessful in his attempt as Tardiff regained the lead going into the corner.
At the halfway mark, hard chargers Tyler King, of Livermore and Bobby Timmons, of Windham, successfully maneuvered their way inside the top five after starting 9th and 10th respectively. With ten laps remaining the final caution flew and set up a 10-lap shootout.

SCARBOROUGH, Maine – Reid Lanpher of Manchester, Maine, finished second in the Amsoil NELCAR Legends Tour 25-lap VIP Thursday Thunder feature event at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine, on Thursday, August 1. The finish was the fourth consecutive podium finish for the 15-year-old Lanpher, who won at Wiscasset Raceway on July 13 and then finished second twice in a span of three days at both Beech Ridge and Oxford Plains Speedway. With one lap remaining, Lanpher had pulled to the rear bumper of the race leader when the field was given the combined yellow/checkered flags for a blown engine on another competitor’s car.

REID, WERE YOU HOPING THE RACE WOULD BE RESTARTED WITH ONE LAP REMAINING?
I could have won it, maybe. It’s just one of those things that could have gone either way. It could have played against me or it could have played for me. I would have liked to see a caution, but that’s racing. We’ll take that. We started 19th and got all the way to second in 25 laps. I’m pretty pumped about that.
Big thanks to everybody, really, that makes this possible. I just feel so fortunate to be a 15-year-old kid out here doing what I do. Big, big thanks to everybody.
DID YOU THINK THE CAR WAS GOING TO BE THAT GOOD AFTER FINAL PRACTICE?
We made some gains from the first practice, and we were selective in our adjustments. I think that worked out good. I was fairly confident going into the feature after the first practice session. Did I think we’d be good enough to get all the way to second? Maybe I’d have questioned that a little bit, but I’ll take it.
It is what it is. It’s so frustrating to get second eight times this year, but I can’t complain. There were 18 other cars out here that would have liked to have finished where we did.
HOW MUCH DID THE EARLY CAUTION FLAGS HELP YOU WITH TRACK POSITION?
Not being involved in the wrecks was big. I was going to take all the cautions I could get, to be honest, without being involved in any of them. I didn’t care if I had to restart on the outside lane or on the inside behind slow cars – I was going to take any cautions we could get and try and use them to my advantage.

McKeage Leads NASCAR Standings For Stretch Run
SCARBOROUGH, Maine – Even though it seems everybody wants to remind him about the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series point standings – including his own children – Dan McKeage insists he’s no paying much attention to them.
With just five races remaining this season, McKeage leads the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway Pro Series division by 13 points. It is the largest advantage owned by any leader in any of the track’s four weekly divisions.
“It wasn’t as good as it’s been, actually,” said McKeage, the 2010 track champion who finished seventh in a 40-lap event last weekend to extend his division lead. “Last week, when we stoved the whole front end of the car up, we never really moved the weights around again after we fixed it. We figured we couldn’t hurt it by adding the weight this week, but it didn’t handle as good. In the heat race, it was really good, but when we went for the feature it wasn’t as good as it had been the week before. I felt like we left a couple positions on the table.”

Canaan, NH. – The Valenti Modified Racing Series returns to the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, Scarborough, Maine this Saturday night, August 3, and history just may repeat itself.
In seven previous appearances at the famed third-mile oval, Beech Ridge offered up six first-time winners in one way or another. An interesting twist as New England’s premier modified series, chosen the top touring division by Speed 51.com readers, heads up Route 95 to do battle in a 100-lap green flag feature race.
Buxton, Maine veteran David Pinkham scored his first VMRS series win driving the Gary Casella #25 for the first time. The year after saw Dale Evonsion win his first and only VMRS race beating Pinkham to the checkers.
Kirk Alexander won his first VMRS race at Beech Ridge. The following season (2008) Mother Nature claimed bragging rights, her first.
