ROOKIE BILLY CHILDS JR. ROCKS THE FIELD AT OXFORD PLAINS SPEEDWAY

For the first time this season, the Budweiser Oxford Championship Series was run on its normal scheduled Fridaynight, and the fans once again were treated to an awesome night of racing. Winners included Billy Childs Jr., Spencer Morse, David Tripp and Cam Childs.

For the second consecutive week in the Budweiser Pro Late Models, a newcomer to the division slipped out of town with the $1,500 first place check and the hardware that went with it, as rookie driver, Billy Childs Jr. held off a twenty-nine car field to pick up his first career Pro Late Model victory. However it was no easy task as he was challenged from lap 40 til the checkered flag waved. Kyle Desouza had an awesome car considering he destroyed it last Sunday afternoon. Desouza dogged Childs over the final ten laps only lose the fight to Tim Brackett on the white flag lap. Child’s edged out Brackett, Scott Moore, Shane Green and Desouza to claim the victory. Scott McDaniel, Kyle Treadwell, Kevin Douglass, Scott Farrington and Jeremy Davis completed the top ten. Heat checkers fell for Jeff Burgess, Justin Drake and Trevor Sanborn.

NAPA SHOW, SHINE & DRAG GREAT FATHER’S DAY EXPERIENCE

NAPA SHOW, SHINE & DRAG GREAT FATHER’S DAY EXPERIENCEThis year’s edition of the NAPA Show, Shine and Drag at Oxford Plains Speedway will certainly be a Father’s Day gift that any dad would enjoy. The mega-event is scheduled for Sunday, June 15th at 9am.

“We are extremely excited about this year’s NAPA Show, Shine and Drag, stated Oxford Plains Speedway Vice President, Michael Mayberry. We have been working on this project since last October, and this show should be a good one. We have added motorcycles as well as one-lunger engines for display, plus we have added a BBQ, a beer garden and music to this year’s edition. There is plenty of entertainment for families to enjoy, and we are expecting a large turnout of classic cars, muscle cars and hot rods as well, as we have been hitting numerous car shows, and have contacted many car clubs throughout the Northeast. We are very proud of having NAPA on board with us this year, and expect to have a quality show.”

MINI-CUP CARS MOVING TO GO-KART SERIES

The newly proposed Mini-Cup division that was scheduled to run weekly in the Budweiser Oxford Championship Series on Friday nights will be moved to the Go-Kart Series that is scheduled to start in June of 2014.

“The division just can’t get off the ground stated Oxford Plains Speedway, General Manager, Dick Therrien. We had quite a bit of interest during our organizational meetings, but the interest apparently were just tire kickers, and unfortunately you can’t race with just a couple of cars. We want to thank Barry Morris and Parker Varney for supporting us, and hopefully some others will join in when the Go-Kart season kicks off.”

Oxford Plains Speedway officials are looking at expanding the numbers of races for the new four cylinder Bandit division which will now debut on Friday, May 30th. A revised schedule will be released in the very near future.

OPEN PRACTICE A GO APRIL 19TH AT OPS

ALL SYSTEMS GO FOR PRACTICE ON APRIL 19TH AT OPS

Mother Nature has taken a turn for the good, as April has seen some great spring weather, and allowed the snow and ice to melt very quickly. As the grounds continue to dry, the open practice for cars from all divisions that is scheduled for Saturday, April 19th, is a go unless we get some heavy rains this week.

The general admission grandstands will not be open to the public as we continue to make improvements for opening day. However, race fans may purchase a pit pass so that they too can enjoy the opening day practice.
