EMMA LIBBY CAPTURES CAREER FIRST SPORTSMAN WIN AT 95
Sixteen year old Emma Libby of Glenburn led the first 13 laps of the 25 lap Darling’s Ford Sportsman feature at Speedway 95 Saturday night, but lost it to points leader Kris Matchett of Skowhegan on a lap 14 restart. As Matchett pulled away from the teen driver, Libby held on to the second spot until Matchett unexpectedly slowed on the 23rd lap. Libby was able to overtake him and cruise to her first win as a rookie in the division. Dean Clements of Brooks, making his first appearance since an early season wreck sidelined his activity, took second with Jay Robichaud of Eddington, also returning after several weeks away following an accident that seriously damaged his car, finished third. Fourth went to pole sitter Karl Stanhope of Hampden with Matchett limping home in fifth with a sick engine. Matchett won the division’s single qualifying race.

Andrew McLaughlin came back from last week’s disappointing fourth place finish after leading for 35 laps to finishing half a lap ahead of the field in the 40 lap Dysart’s Late Model feature at Speedway 95 Saturday night. Starting on the outside pole, McLaughlin battled side by side with pole sitter Nick Jenkins of Milo for the first two laps, but took the lead for good on lap 3 and led to the checkers in the caution free race. McLaughlin stretched out his lead while Jenkins battled with John Curtis Jr. of Hermon for over 20 laps for the second spot, which Jenkins took for good on lap 28 and held to the finish. Curtis then engaged in a battle for third with Orrington’s John Kalel II for laps 30 through 38, with Kalel taking the spot for a third place finish. Brenton Parritt of Steuben then got by Curtis on the final lap to take fourth, with Curtis ending up in fifth. Dean Smart of Bradley and Brenton Parritt of Steuben won the night’s qualifiers Zach Audet of Skowhegan led the Coca Cola Sport 4 35 lap Street Landscaping series event #2 from pole to checkers, holding off Cornville’s Brad Bosworth through three cautions to take the win. Bosworth missed a shift on the original start and played catch up for the whole race, finishing in second just ahead of his brother Jayson Bosworth, also of Cornville, who finished third. 12 year old Dylan Street of Old Town ran a strong race, finishing in fourth, holding off a stiff challenge from Milford’s Garett Hayman, who came from the back of the pack following a lap 5 spin into the turn three wall to finish fifth. Sixth place in the series event went to Carmel’s Ted Ryder, with Hermon’s Andrew Crosby in seventh. Jeremy Scott of Carmel, Ed Archer Jr. of Clinton and Darren Durrell of Newburgh rounded out the top ten in that order. Audet and Bosworth were the heat race winners and started the event on the front row.

For the second week in a row, Speedway 95’s attempt to kick off its Wacky Wednesday season was thwarted by Mother Nature, as rain began to fall just prior to the beginning of the night’s activities. In attendance and ready to participate were cars in the new 100% stock 4/6/8 cylinder Enduro, Modified 4/6/8 cylinder Enduro, Stars of Tomorrow and Full size pick-up trucks. This night’s racing will be made up on Friday, July 25 as an added race to that week’s scheduled racing. All Wacky Wednesday divisions will race twice that week, with the regularly scheduled show on Wednesday, July 23, then the make up night on Friday. July 25. With only 10 race meets scheduled for the brief season, track owner Del Merritt wanted to give the racers an opportunity to race as often as possible within the 10 weeks scheduled between June 25 and August 27a.
Following it’s regularly scheduled show on Saturday, July 5, Speedway 95 will resume it’s Saturday night racing on July 26, after a two week lay-off, with no racing scheduled for Saturday, July 12 and Saturday, July 19. Speedway 95 will present “Monster Truck Mayhem” on Friday July 18 and Saturday July 19.

For the second time in the four races run in the Dysart’s Late Models at Speedway 95 this season, the feature race was won by mere inches when Brenton Parritt of Steuben held off a late race charge from 2013 champion Andy Saunders of Ellsworth, who was driving a car borrowed from Orrington’s Jim Robichaud. Parritt started the 40 lap feature event in the 8th spot, took the lead from Corinth’s Lloyd Nickerson on lap 7, and led the rest of the way to the checkers. Meanwhile, Saunders and Ryan Deane of Winterport worked their way through the field and became locked in a lengthy battle for the second spot, which Saunders finally won on lap 35. Saunders then set his sights on Parritt, but ran out of laps as Parritt crossed the finish line with his bumper just ahead of Saunders when the checkered flag flew. Saunders finished second with Deane in third. Nick Jenkins of Milo finished fourth with Andrew McLaughlin of Harrington finishing in fifth after recovering from a lap 9 incident with Nickerson that sent both cars to the rear of the field on the restart. John Kalel II and Nickerson won the night’s Late Model qualifiers.

DONNY SILVA AND JOHN KALEL II WINS HIGHLIGHT SPEEDWAY 95 WEEK-END
Speedway 95 closed out the 2013 racing season with a “Christmas in October” week-end that featured extended length racing on Saturday and Sunday to benefit the Toys for Tots program.
On Saturday, Donny Silva of Hudson led the 50 lap “Quit Your Complaining” Sport-Four feature from the pole to the checkers, besting a field of 28 cars competing for the $1000 winner’s check. The quality of the field was seen when the race went from the drop of the green to lap 41 before the yellow flag slowed the action for a single car spin. On the restart, Calvin Rose Jr. of Turner, who was running second when the yellow flew, was able to edge slightly ahead of Silva on the backstretch, but when the two crossed the scoring line, Silva was again in the lead and held it to the end. Rose finished in second, with Jayson Bosworth of Cornville placing third. Fourth at the finish was Zach Audet of Skowhegan, who claimed the position after a spirited battle with Justin Larson of Peru, who finished fifth. Rounding out the top ten were: 6. Brad Bosworth, Cornville, 7. Tim Collins, Farmingdale, 8. Steve Heath, Milo, 9. Jimmie Childs, and 10. Jeremy Scott, Carmel. Qualifier winners were, Donny Silva, Justin Larson and Jayson Bosworth

Ellsworth’s Andy Saunders took advantage of another driver’s misfortune Saturday night at Speedway 95 and won the 40 lap Dysart’s Late Model feature as well as putting an exclamation point on his second consecutive division championship. Deane Smart of Bradley beat Saunders to the front at the drop of the green flag, and led the first 28 laps of the event. On lap 29, Lloyd Nickerson of Corinth spun in turn four while the leaders were rounding turn three and was sitting in the middle of the track when Smart got there. Smart struck Nickerson head on, lifted into the air and landed on the car of Paul White who was running right behind Smart. Saunders, who was running third at the time, dove to the inside and avoided any contact with the wreck. Smart, White and Nickerson were all eliminated from the race, while Saunders forged ahead of Wayne Parritt Jr. on the restart and led the remaining twelve laps to post his sixth win of the season. Parritt ran a strong race, finishing a close second to Saunders with Hermon’s Mike Hopkins finishing third, right on Parritt’s bumper. Fourth went to rookie Andrew McLaughlin of Harrington with Winterport’s Ryan Deane taking the fifth spot. Saunders claimed his second consecutive championship in the division, a feat which he also accomplished in the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
