Legion Speedway in Wentworth, NH announced a 22 event schedule for 2013. Like a lot of north country tracks over the years, and especially in this recession, things have not been good for the central NH track. Ticket prices will be the same as 2012. The track will go with a Sunday twilight series program.
Sportsman Modifieds along with the 600 cc Mini Sprints, Street Stocks and Outlaw Mini Stocks will be usual weekly card. There will be periodic visits by the Sprint Cars of New England, Granite State Mini Sprints and the Outlaw Dirt Midgets. Legion Speedway’s season will get underway on Sunday, April 28 with a practice session with free admission and ends with the Wingless Sprint Weekend on September 22.
During the season the gates open on Sunday at 2 p.m., hot laps at 4:30 p.m. and the green flag waves at 5 p.m. Admission is a reasonable $10, Juniors and Seniors are $8 and kids 11 and under are free with an accompanying paid admission. A family Pack is $25 with free parking. (more…)

With Opening Day just 3 short months away, the interest swirling around the All-New Riverside Speedway is growing. Drivers have been inquiring about the new schedule, rules, and bonuses that will be accompanying the 2013 season. With the swelling list of drivers, the championship talks have already been on the tongues of fans and racers alike. Two people throwing their names in the championship bucket are Bryan Mason and Jamie Heath.
Bryan Mason. Three-time Late Model champion from ’08-’10. Tied for third all-time in Late Model championships at Riverside Speedway. Not only that, but has two 4 cylinder championships under his belt at two different tracks. The numbers are all there for this star, but you’d never know it talking to him. When asked what he thinks about his name being spoken with the greats George Stone and Aaron Bennett, he is very humble. (more…)

Hampshire Motor Speedway officials announced the entitlement sponsorship extension of OSRAM SYLVANIA, which will keep the SYLVANIA 300 on the Magic Mile marquee for another five years. The deal, which was revealed at the NASCAR Sprint Media Tour, will partner New England’s largest sports and entertainment facility and one of the world’s largest lighting companies through the 2017 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season. SYLVANIA has sponsored the fall NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at NHMS for the last decade.
Since taking over as the entitlement sponsor in 2003, SYLVANIA has seen nine different drivers win its race, one claiming the SYLVANIA 300 as their first-career victory – Clint Bowyer in ’07. The SYLVANIA 300 also served as one of the races in the Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship since the NASCAR playoff’s inception in 2004. (more…)

Veteran stock car racing driver Bobby Cabral was officially crowned Granite State Pro Stock Series champion during the series’ inaugural banquet held at The Yard Restaurant in Manchester, NH on Friday, January 18.
Cabral, of Kingston, NH, claimed the series’ first championship with one win and five top-five place finishes, while never finishing lower than seventh during the season. The series championship battle went into the final race of the season, where Cabral’s third place finish netted him the series championship.
Cabral and car owner Dave Frahm were celebrated as the driver’s champion and series’ champion, respectively. Cabral received a championship trophy and a championship jacket from American Racer racing tires. Frahm received the championship earnings.
Bobby Baillargeon of East Kingston, NH was celebrated as the championship runner-up. Barry Gray of Belchertown, MA claimed third place prizes, with Rich Eaton and Fran Colson taking home fourth and fifth place prizes, respectively. Carl Eriksson, Mike Parks, Derek Griffith, Keith Caruso, and Phil Meany also claimed driver’s trophies, as well. Eriksson, Parks, John Griffith and Louie Mechalides, Steve Litwin, Mike Notargiacomo, and Josh King claimed additional car owner prizes. (more…)

2012 American Canadian Tour Champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr., and 2012 Serie ACT Castrol Champion Patrick Laperle were the stars of the ACT Banquet at the Doubletree Inn in Burlington, VT on Saturday, January 12th, earning the highest awards for their respective titles. ACT awarded over $700,000 in point funds and event purses to teams in 2012.
Helliwell was honored after one of the most entertaining point-battles of ACT’s history, beating out eight-time Tour Champion Brian Hoar in an epic battle for his first-ever ACT Championship.?He won four races in 2012, including his first-career ACT victory, and only finished worse than seventh once.? He won $10,000 for his ACT Championship, but also picked up an additional $5,000 from the Ford point fund for winning the Ford Blue Oval Challenge for a record third time in a row.?
Laperle enjoyed a comeback year on the Serie ACT Castrol.?After falling as low as sixth in the beginning of the season, Laperle surged for four wins and nine top-fives to claim an unprecedented third Castrol Series Championship, along with a $10,000 check. Laperle, now with 17 feature victories, sits just one win away from having the most in Series history. (more…)

The Texas Roadhouse North East Mini Stock Tour will be attending the Northeast Motorsports Expo for the 5th straight year. The show is on for 3 days Friday, Saturday, and Sunday January 11th-13th. We will have all of the NEMST information available for teams and fans pertaining to the 2013 season. One NEMST and one NEP4T car will be on display and NEMST officials will be on hand to answer any questions about the 2013 season for both series.
For the first time the Texas Roadhouse North East Mini Stock Tour will be hosting the Grassroots Motorsports Marketing Seminar with representatives from all of aspects of motorsports marketing. Hosts of the seminar will include George Cambell, writer of Busch North Scene; Stan Mertz, owner/driver; Michelle Fairman, Texas Roadhouse Marketing Rep; and Bob Guptill, NEMST Promoter. With all of the hosts on board any questions pertaining to motorsports marketing will be able to be answered. The goal of the seminar is to give drivers and teams ideas of how to successfully market their race teams and be more attractive to potential sponsors. (more…)
