Rookie rosters growing at Devil’s Bowl Speedway
New racers trying out Vermont’s fastest half-mile
WEST HAVEN, VT — Rookie stock car drivers from around the northeast will learn their craft on the asphalt half-mile at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven, VT this summer. The track’s weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series program has more than a dozen rookies registered to date, with several more expected to enter by the season opening Spring Green event on Sunday, May 6.
The headline Bond Auto Parts Modified class has freshman racers Joey Roberts, Andy Smith, and Jeff Haskins, each with vastly different racing backgrounds. After success in Sportsman and Renegade cars, Roberts, of Georgia, VT, will make his open-wheel debut in the No. 50x Bicknell chassis sponsored by Vermont Life Safety. South Glens Falls, NY driver Smith was a frequent winner on both the clay and asphalt Devil’s Bowl surfaces in the former Duke Stock class, and will pilot the No. 91 E-Z Marine & Storage/Weller’s Auto Parts Bicknell. Haskins, of Wells, VT, ran the first five stock car races of his career last season and earned an impressive seventh-place finish at Devil’s Bowl in his Dirt Wheels-built No. 95 Fuller Sand & Gravel/Concrete Professionals, Inc. car.

FAMILY MATTERS: Crazy Horse Racing Off To Big Start
Great Run at Waterford Speedbowl Sign of Things to Come in 2012
SOUTH PARIS, Maine – It’s still early on a Saturday night, at least by stock car racing’s standards, when Mitch Green’s cell phone rings.
“The first thing I’m thinking is, ‘Uh-oh. This can’t be good,’” Green recalls. “Usually when you get that call so soon, something must have gone wrong.”
Green bids a hello to the voice on the other end and then tentatively asks how things have gone at a race track on the other side of New England. He is pleased when Jeff Marshall, a competitor in the weekly Late Model division at Riverside Speedway in Groveton, N.H., fills him in on some good news.

WEST HAVEN, VT — Late Model stock car champion Brian Hoar of Williston, VT rolls in to Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Sunday, May 6 looking to defend his title in the historic “Spring Green” event. The 112-lap race marks the grand re-opening for the West Haven half-mile and is the third round of the American-Canadian Tour championship schedule.

Hoar took down last year’s Spring Green race, the first-ever ACT event at Devil’s Bowl, before later collecting his record eighth ACT championship. He says winning the inaugural Devil’s Bowl ACT race was a special accomplishment for his No. 37 Goss Dodge-Chrysler/RPM Racing Engines team.
“It was really cool winning at Devil’s Bowl last year. I never raced there when it was a dirt track but we got the chance last year and it was a lot of fun,” Hoar said. “I love that there’s another asphalt track in Vermont. The fact that it’s only an hour away from home makes it even more special.”
