HURRICANE PAYNE TAKES NETS CHECKERED FLAG

Lowell, MA- Hurricane Howard Payne of Shelton CT, takes the win from Truck Champion Lindeman in the 25-Lap New England Truck Series feature race last Saturday night at the Waterford Speedbowl. Andy Lindeman #3 of Poestenkill New York and Derek Chriss #12 of Averill New York led the eleven truck field to the green flag start. Lindeman took the lead with Chriss and Keith Chapman #22 of Mystic CT in tow along with Duane Noll #2 of Monroe CT. By lap ten, the first caution came out with Bert Ouellette #15 of Dayville CT, Ronnie Oldham Jr #38 of Westbrook CT, and Nate Bubello #90 of Holliston MA, all involved in turn one. By lap thirteen, Rookie driver Corey Coates #75 of Ledyard CT, pulls out the next caution with a front flat. On lap seventeen, the last caution comes out with Oldham, Ouellette, Bubello, Coates and the 21x of Jason Lafayette of Somers CT , which closed up the field. Payne #0 starting last , moved up to the second starting position on the restart and took the lead on lap eighteen. On lap twenty-one, the #17 Chevy truck of Jonathon Avery from Quakerhill CT, retired to the infield with terminal mechanical issues ending his night. By lap twenty-three, the top three challenge was on with side by side racing for the battle of positions. Payne, Lindeman, and Noll put on a great battle swapping positions as Lindeman tried to hold on. On the final lap, Payne used the outside groove passing Lindeman with a half a trucks length taking the win. Final finish: 1. Payne, 2. Lindeman, 3: Noll, 4: Chapman, 5: Chriss, 6: Ouellette, 7: Oldham, 8: Lafayette, 9: Bubello, 10: Coates, 11: Avery. BARRE, Vt. – Brent Dragon overcame a mechanical issue to take home a 15th-place finish in the ACT Late Model Tour Merchants Bank 150 at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, Vt., on Sunday, May 1. Around Lap 20, Dragon lost the power steering in his Avery Motorsports but still managed to finish in the top half of the field for the second straight race after starting out from the sixth postion.

Nick Sweet Takes Second Merchants Bank 150 in a Row

Barre, VT – Barre, VT’s Nick Sweet claimed his second straight Merchants Bank 150 win at Thunder Road International Speedbowl on Sunday, May 1. The defending track champion came from his 8th starting position to take the lead from Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. on lap 91. Sweet would work his way through lap traffic with ease and never relinquished the lead for the remainder of the event.

Graniteville’s John Donahue led from the outside pole for the first four laps before Polewarczyk took over from the fourth place starting spot. Polewarczyk survived the only restart of the event after a lap 9 caution for a spin. He then took control of the event and lapped the majority of the field before Sweet reeled him in and took the lead.

(Stafford Springs, CT)—Under bright and sunny skies with temperatures in
the mid-70’s, Stafford Motor Speedway hosted the completion of “The Greatest
Race in the History of Spring”, the 40th Annual CARQUEST Tech-Net Spring
Sizzler. Taking down feature victories were Ryan Preece in the 40-lap SK
Modified® feature and Woody Pitkat in the 30-lap Late Model feature.
In the 40-lap SK Modified® feature event, Eric Berndt moved by Ted
Christopher for the race lead on the first lap of the race, but the action
was slowed by Heather DesRochers who came to a stop in turn 4 and Nicole
Morgillo, who had a half spin in turn 4.

BARRE, Vt. – Austin Theriault of Fort Kent, Maine, failed to qualify for the ACT Late Model Tour Merchants Bank 150 at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, Vt., on Sunday, May 1. Theriault fought the track position battle through all three rounds of qualifying on the high-banked quarter-mile oval, but in the end the RPM Motorsports driver simply ran out of time in the last-chance qualifying race.
