Maine’s fastest full-bodied racers added to Racin’ Preview 2011 lineup
Portland, ME – Northern New England’s oval track stock car season is several weeks away, as the Daytona International Speedway gates swing open for the start of the NASCAR season.
Just days after the big 500 in Florida, the 18th annual edition of the region’s biggest wintertime stock car racing showcase, Racin’ Preview 2011 at the Portland Expo, opens its doors Friday, February 25 and Saturday, February 26. (more…)
Moultonboro, NH – The Lakes Region Ice Racing Club sponsored 2 days of oval track ice racing last weekend. Saturday featured the largest ice racing event in the northeast, the 27th annual Latchkey Cup.

The Club struggled with water and slush issues during the week to prepare the racing surface, but with several sub-zero nights and a lot of work, the track was in great shape for the Saturday racing. The cook shack was in place and the souvenir stand setup as race cars, crews and fans streamed onto Berry Pond. After a driver’s meeting and the preliminary hot laps, the crews prepared their cars for the qualifying heats. Racers in the Junior, Front Wheel Drive, Rear Wheel Drive, Stock and Modified Divisions took to the track for the morning qualifying races. After a mid-day lunch break and a “meet the drivers and check out the cars” session, the racers prepared for the day’s feature events. (more…)
Bear Ridge Speedway “the fastest dirt track in Vermont” is proud to announce the return of Wells River Chevrolet as part of the 2011 “99ROCK WFRD” Weekly Racing Series sponsoring the Sportsman Coupes.
The buzz on the street continues with anticipated excitement for this year’s Wells River Chevrolet Sportsman Coupe division as once again it looks like there will be a fine field of rookies doing battle in this ever popular division run first here at the Ridge and continuously every year for the past 43. Not only will there be new faces, as well as last year’s contenders on hand, there will also be the return of some “seasoned” veterans, who will once again be seen doing battle in this division. One such contender Bobby Shepard, who definitely will not be able to compete for rookie of the year, suggested we start a “senior class award”. Who knows maybe we will, as we suspect we would be able to get a few drivers out there who would qualify even if they didn’t want too!
The Coupes have always called Bear Ridge Speedway their home, and this year will be no exception. As with anything, this division has ebbed and flowed with the times and has NEVER been told they were not welcome. This has paid off for them as this past year saw a rise once again in the car count, and 2011 is expected to be even greater. Will their numbers exceed 20 on a weekly basis as they have in the Bond Auto Sportsman Modifieds? Mark your calendars for every Saturday night starting May 7th to find out for yourself!
Everyone is anxious to see the 2011 season kick into gear, which will begin this year with the annual car show at the Jiffy Mart ~ Bradford Mini Mart followed by a free general admission practice session on Saturday May 7th. The 99ROCK wfrd weekly racing season will then see weekly competition in all five divisions starting that same night May 7th . Racing will kick into gear at 6:30 pm, based on track conditions. Don Miller Named Vermont Motorsports Magazine Driver of the Year
Devil’s Bowl champion edges Thunder Road’s Sweet in online vote
SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT – Stock car racing champion Don Miller has been named the Vermont Motorsports Magazine 2010 Driver of the Year by readers of www.vtmotormag.com.
Nearly 24,000 votes were cast across ten categories in a two-week online poll at the Vermont Motorsports Magazine website. Wells, Vt., driver Miller earned 22% of the vote in the overall VMM 2010 Driver of the Year category. The Sportsman Modified track champion at West Haven’s Devil’s Bowl Speedway edged Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl track champion Nick Sweet of Barre by just two percentage points for the award.
Adam Pierson of Fairlee finished third with 12% of the vote after his Sportsman Modified championship at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, and American-Canadian Tour champion Brian Hoar of Williston was fourth overall with 10% of the vote. Josh Sunn of White River Junction, Dan Eastman of Thetford Center, Brandon’s Don Scarborough, Kenny Tremont, Jr., of West Sand Lake, N.Y., and Mendon’s Chris Wilk were also on the ballot. (more…)
Airborne boosts Sportsman “4-20’s” purse and point fund
South Plattsburgh, NY – Airborne Speedway has announced that J&S Steel of Plattsburgh has renewed its sponsorship of the Sportsman division for the 2011 stock car racing season.
J&S Steel, Vermont Life Safety and Airborne Marketing Manager Sherm Hamel have arranged to double last year’s payout for the Sportsman headliner “4-20’s” event and create a $1,000 point fund lottery.
The Vermont Life Safety 4-20’s race, set for August 13, consists of four 20-lap sprints, each now increased to pay $500 for 1st place. The line-up for successive legs of the race is set by inverting the previous order of finish. The overall event winner, determined by the lowest total of combined finishes, also earns $500. (more…)
