First Time Winners Abound
At Whip City Speedway

Westfield, MA – Saturday night’s session at Whip City Speedway provided a number of drivers the opportunity to collect their first feature win, either the first in their careers, or in the first in the current season.
Tyler Jackson claimed his first 750cc Mini Sprint victory, in a rapid race that was slowed by only a single caution flag. Tyler, last season’s 750 Sportsman champion, had struggled since moving up to the A-class, but his performance this week indicates that he’s put all the pieces together.
“We went over the whole car and made lots of adjustments,” Jackson said of his team’s preparations. “The track was really fast and it matched our set-up. Once Nikki Oullette got caught in lapped traffic, I was able to check out.” (more…)

Pembroke Takes Second Straight Memorial Day Classic
Barre, VT – Montpelier’s Dave Pembroke earned his second straight Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic win at Barre, VT’s Thunder Road International Speedbowl on Sunday, May 30. Pembroke started the race from the 14th spot and worked his way through traffic to take the lead on lap 68. Pembroke would hold the lead for the remainder of the race.
Granitevile’s John Donahue took the lead early in the event after starting on the outside pole. He led the majority of the first 60 laps while battling with Barre’s Nick Sweet, who spun on lap 46 while battling for the lead. Joey Becker also led several laps before Pembroke got by. Donahue would hold on for second, Eric Williams came from the 25th starting spot to claim third while Joey Laquerre and Rich Lowrey rounded out the top five.

Rocco Scores Sunoco Mod Victory at Thompson;
Monahan Dominates Limited 50-Lapper;
Banfield, Gentes, McDermott, & Churchill Also Victorious
Thompson, CT (May 27, 2010): On Thursday Night Thompson Thunder at Thompson International Speedway the Limited Sportsman division shared the limelight with the headlining Sunoco Modifieds. Two colorful personalities were victorious on the special night. Keith Rocco of Wallingford, CT, earned his second win of the 2010 season in the Sunoco Modified division. Shawn Monahan of Waterford, CT, took a commanding win in the annual extra distance event for the Limited Sportsman division.
Jim Banfield of S. Glastonbury, CT, wired the field to score a hard-fought victory in the Super Late Models. Rick Gentes of Woonsocket, RI, took top honors in a wild Late Model event while Cam “Keith” McDermott of Scituate, RI, was victorious in the TIS Modifieds. Randy Churchill, Jr., of Oakdale, CT, was awarded the victory in the Mini Stocks following post-race technical inspection.

THUNDER ROAD FEATURES TWIN 100’S IN MEMORIAL DAY CLASSIC
Waterbury, VT – Mekkelsen RV will present the 48th annual Memorial Day Classic at Thunder Road Speedbowl in Barre, VT this Sunday, May 30. For the third year the Modified Racing Series (MRS), presented by Bob Valenti AutoMall, will join the American Canadian Tour (ACT) Thunder Road Late Models in the twin bill. Each division will race 100 lap features.
The Memorial Day tradition has been going on at the high-banked oval for nearly half a century. Beginning in 1961, the list of winners is a great tribute to some of the men who helped build stock car racing in the northeast. That tradition continues this Memorial weekend.

Dragon Breaks In New Devil’s Bowl; Sets Sights On Thunder Road Return
MILTON, Vt. — Brent Dragon gave the new Devil’s Bowl Speedway rave reviews over the weekend and then set his sights on an old, familiar foe.
Dragon finished 4th in the first-ever Late Model race held on Devil’s Bowl’s brand new asphalt surface on Sunday afternoon during an off-weekend for the ACT Late Model Tour. Next up for Dragon is a return trip to Thunder Road International Speedbowl this weekend for the non-points Memorial Day Classic 100 on the tight quarter-mile.
