NEW ENGLAND MOTOR SPORTS NORTH for Feb 2 to 4

Hampshire Motor Speedway officials announced the entitlement sponsorship extension of OSRAM SYLVANIA, which will keep the SYLVANIA 300 on the Magic Mile marquee for another five years. The deal, which was revealed at the NASCAR Sprint Media Tour, will partner New England’s largest sports and entertainment facility and one of the world’s largest lighting companies through the 2017 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season. SYLVANIA has sponsored the fall NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at NHMS for the last decade.
Since taking over as the entitlement sponsor in 2003, SYLVANIA has seen nine different drivers win its race, one claiming the SYLVANIA 300 as their first-career victory – Clint Bowyer in ’07. The SYLVANIA 300 also served as one of the races in the Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship since the NASCAR playoff’s inception in 2004. (more…)

Speedway 660 Awards Banquet: 2012 Wrap Up! Looking ahead to the Speedway’s 20th season in 2013!

FREDERICTON: Saturday night at the Fredericton Inn Speedway 660 held its annual Awards banquet to honor the champions and award winners from the past season. A crowd of over 300 on hand to see the 2012 hardware rolled out. This event is always a great cap off to the previous season and a kick off for the upcoming season.

The big winners in 2012 were division champions Dave O’Blenis, Glyn Nott, Shannon Brake, Luc McLaughlin, Cole Boudreau and Chuck and Cliff Mercer.

This year’s Hughie Yorke Dedication to the Sport award was presented to Steve and Bob Rogers. A testimate to two gentleman who have spent their life in racing and now making sure their sons and grandsons have the same opportunity. (more…)

NEW ENGLAND MOTORSPORTS SOUTH Jan 26 to 28

With the 2013 schedule nearing completion, Seekonk Speedway has announced that the 9th Annual Open Wheel Wednesday will be held on Wednesday, July 17th. This has become one of the most anticipated dates on the calendar for any open wheel fan and competitor.

The Modified Madness portion of this event has produces some of the most spectacular races in recent New England history, starting with the last lap pass by Donny Lia to pick up the first $10,000 winner prize. With a green, white, checkered finish, Lia squeezed past Ted Christopher and went on to carry the checkered flag, in a race that the fans talked about for years.

The 2012 event still has people buzzing about the side by side clinic put on by Ryan Preece and eventual winner Matt Hirschman. Matt became the only driver to win this prestigious event twice. Additional winners include Doug Coby, Chris Pasteryak, Kirk Alexander, Vinny and Todd Annarummo and Lia. (more…)

NEW ENGLAND MOTORSPORTS NORTH for Jan 26 to 28

Veteran stock car racing driver Bobby Cabral was officially crowned Granite State Pro Stock Series champion during the series’ inaugural banquet held at The Yard Restaurant in Manchester, NH on Friday, January 18.

Cabral, of Kingston, NH, claimed the series’ first championship with one win and five top-five place finishes, while never finishing lower than seventh during the season. The series championship battle went into the final race of the season, where Cabral’s third place finish netted him the series championship.

Cabral and car owner Dave Frahm were celebrated as the driver’s champion and series’ champion, respectively. Cabral received a championship trophy and a championship jacket from American Racer racing tires. Frahm received the championship earnings.

Bobby Baillargeon of East Kingston, NH was celebrated as the championship runner-up. Barry Gray of Belchertown, MA claimed third place prizes, with Rich Eaton and Fran Colson taking home fourth and fifth place prizes, respectively. Carl Eriksson, Mike Parks, Derek Griffith, Keith Caruso, and Phil Meany also claimed driver’s trophies, as well. Eriksson, Parks, John Griffith and Louie Mechalides, Steve Litwin, Mike Notargiacomo, and Josh King claimed additional car owner prizes. (more…)
