Redemption will be on the mind of top Three Quarter (TQ) Midget driver Erick Rudolph at the New Year’s Eve Indoor races in Providence, R.I.’s Dunkin’ Donuts Center. Rudolph slammed into the concrete barrier at the end of the straightaway on December 8 at 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore, Md.
Fans who missed the crash heard the concussion. That’s how terrifying the crash was that heavily damaged one of the fastest Indoor TQ Midgets. The Ransomville, N.Y, driver was bruised and confused – but not hurt.

The Dunkin’ Donuts Center Coffee Cup race is the second of three events that make up the Fatheadz Eyewear Indoor Racing Series.
The Indoor auto racing events are produced by Len Sammons Motorsports Productions. Rudolph’s car owner and constructor Mike Lafler, also of Ransomville, subsequently diagnosed the problem as a stuck throttle cable. (more…)

Many of the NEMA Midget members, drivers, car owners and officials were on hand at the recent Toys For Tots promo held at Boch Toyota on the Automile in Norwood. Among them were President Mike Scravani. We had a discussion with Mike about the 2013 season.

“It looks like 15 races for NEMA and 16 for the NEMA Lites. We’ve got some new tracks for 2013 like Airborne Speedway in northern NY and Riverside Speedway in Groveton, NH. We’ve never been to Airborne before and we haven’t been to Riverside in a long time. We’re also working on a date at Oxford and we’ll be going back to Seekonk, Lee, Waterford, Thompson and Oswego. We’re also working to get a date at Star Speedway, ” said Mike. (more…)

NEW ENGLAND MOTORSPORTS NORTH for Dec. 22 – 24

The Canaan Speedway dirt track in NH got a new race director the other week. That’s when GM Dick Therrien promoted Mike Conrad to take the position. Therrien, the promoter for both the dirt and paved tracks, made the appointment in order to reorganize and bring new ideas into the race complex.

Conrad has experience as a race driver, crew member, track official. He’s considered to have the skills to improve the dirt track program. Previously Conrad the race directors post at the Legion Speedway in Rumney, NH this past season. Conrad will also be assisted by Charlie Rockwell. Both Conrad and Rockwell be have total charge of racing at the Canaan dirt track on race day in 2013. (more…)

Thompson Honors Track Champions In Two-Night Extravaganza

Thompson, Conn: Thompson International Speedway celebrated the 2012 season this weekend with two ceremonies honoring seven division champions in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series. Ryan Preece of Berlin, Conn. took center stage and was honored as the Sunoco Modified Champion on Saturday night while Late Model Champion Tommy O’Sullivan of Wilbraham, Mass. took top honors on Friday night.

Other champions honored Friday night included Limited Sportsman Champion Scott Sundeen of Douglas, Mass. and Mini Stock Champion Chad Baxter of Pascoag, RI. On Saturday night, Super Late Model Champion Derek Ramstrom of Worcester, Mass., Lite Modified Champion Cam McDermott of Scituate, RI, and Thompson Modified Champion John Lowinski-Loh, Jr. of Milford, Mass joined in celebrating their division titles.

Northeast Motorsports Expo Is Back In 2013

New England’s longest continuously running motorsports trade show is back to celebrate its 25th anniversary next month.

With track and series displays, industry vendors, driver autograph sessions, seminars and more, the Northeast Motorsports Expo returns to the Augusta Civic Center from Jan. 11-13, 2013. Former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers Ricky Craven and Steve Park are both scheduled to make appearances during the weekend.
