Gray Dominates JBH 100 at Monadnock, Becomes Sixth Different Winner in Six Races with Granite State Pro Stock Series

Winchester, NH – Barry Gray fought off multiple challenges from Matt Frahm, Tommy O’Sullivan, and Dillon Moltz to pick up his first victory of the season in the JBH 100 at Monadnock Speedway.

Gray’s Meadow’s Motor Cars/Hawley’s Auto Chevrolet shot out to the lead at the drop of the green flag, as the Belchertown, MA native took full advantage of his pole position starting spot after a strong heat race. Gray would face an early challenge from Matt Frahm and Tommy O’Sullivan, but seemed to be cruising before a caution on lap 26 for Fran Colson and Cory Robert bunched the field back together. Gray would pull away from O’Sullivan once more on the restart, and set a blistering pace, putting multiple cars a lap down before the halfway point of the race.

Walpole, NH-    The first half of the Granite State Pro Stock Series (GSPSS) 2014 season is complete, and Larry Gelinas has been on a tear.  Gelinas has not finished outside of the top 4, with a win and three second place finishes in that stretch.  He has fought a few bouts of adversity, recovering from a mid-race spin at Hudson in the Gate City Classic to come back through the field and take the checkers, and surviving at Star Speedway for the Star 100 as his car fell off the pace late in the race.  G

Enter Dillon Moltz.  Moltz sits 42 points behind Gelinas entering the JBH 100 at Monadnock Speedway this Saturday, August 9th.  The driver of the RB Performance/Brackett Mechanical Chevrolet picked up a fifth place finish at the opener at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, and talk of the youngster making huge waves in the series began.  The Waterford, CT driver then went to Monadnock, and the bad luck bug bit Moltz.  The no. 5 Chevrolet was involved in a couple of incidents, with Moltz ending up with a 17th place finish.  At the Gate City Classic, Moltz had another fast car underneath him, leading some laps early, but couldn’t seal the deal and ended up 5th.

By Gary Dutton

WINCHESTER, NH – Todd Patnode answered the door when opportunity came knocking Saturday, August 2, at Monadnock Speedway.

Patnode’s good fortune arrived in the same package as Scott MacMichael’s heartbreak, as the race-leading MacMichael skidded through a pool of fluid into the frontstretch wall with three laps to go in the Sportsman Modified main event; with Patnode then rocketing to his sixth victory of the summer as MacMichael watched from the pits.

Lee, NH – The battles for the 2014 season championships rolled on at Lee USA Speedway on Friday night, with the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Supermodifieds taking center stage with the running of the Supermodified Shootout, a three-segment race with best combined finished determining the winner.

Rookie Lance Barthelemy of nearby Fremont was first to step up, dominating the action in the first EKeys 4cars-sponsored 25-lap segment and holding off a late-race challenge from Jake Stergios of Candia to grab the victory, making him the first two-time winner of the 2014 campaign.

Stergios inched ahead of Barthelemy in the high groove to lead lap 19, but he couldn’t complete the pass and fell back in line behind the freshman sensation, settling for runner-up honors at the finish. Defending champ Tommy Tombarello, Jr. of Haverhill, MA rounded out the podium with a third place run.
