Veteran leads 49 of 50 laps; point standings tighten
CANAAN, NH – Multi-time Modified stock car racing champion Kenny Tremont, Jr., earned his first-ever victory on the Northern Modified Challenge Series on Sunday, August 11, taking a convincing win in the Subway Fresh Fit 50 at Canaan Fair Speedway. The win was the 303rd feature event victory of the West Sand Lake, NY veteran’s celebrated career.
Tremont was strong in his qualifying heat at the fast 1/3-mile asphalt oval, finishing second to point leader Jessey Mueller. By virtue of a blind draw, Tremont started on the outside of the front row in the 50-lap main event, lining up next to Brandon, VT’s Vince Quenneville, Jr., who also won a qualifying heat.
The opening laps took their toll, drawing four caution periods in the first eight circuits. The restarts set up an entertaining faceoff between Quenneville and Tremont, however, and Tremont surprised even himself in using the tricky outside lane to grab the lead each time. Quenneville was able to lead only the second lap of the race before Tremont pulled out to a comfortable advantage.

Teenager Mueller and veteran Gonyo sit 1-2 in standings
CANAAN, NH – An equal mix of youth and experience lead the all-new Northern Modified Challenge Series stock car tour to Canaan Fair Speedway on Sunday, August 11. Eighteen year-old Jessey Mueller has a small six-point advantage on Leon Gonyo – a veteran of five decades of racing – entering the Subway Fresh Fit 50. WINCHESTER, NH – Tyler Janovsky and Michael McGoldrick III each did it for the first time ever Saturday, August 3, at Monadnock Speedway, while Barry Gray added to his long list of conquests at the high-banked speedplant.
Gray, McGoldrick, and Janovsky each took a victory lap at the fast quarter-mile, as did Sportsman Modified feature winner Tyler Jarvenpaa, Super Stock victor Dave Striebel, and Mini Stock strongman Chris McTaggart.
The Granite State Pro Stock Series 100-lapper was Mike Parks’ to lose. Starting on the pole the veteran wheelsman held off Larry Gelinas and Barry Gray for 78 laps, until a momentary bobble on a restart allowed Gray to speed by and then run out the race from the point.
Gray took second from Gelinas on lap 30 and the potent trio then played high-speed bumper tag until the third of three late-70s cautions set up the only lead change of the event. With Gray adding to his long list of Monadnock feature wins, Parks was rock solid as he earned the runner-up finish with Gelinas glued to his bumper as the top three took the checkers under a blanket.
