Airborne Speedway prepares for huge fireworks crowd

South Plattsburgh – Airborne Speedway is making plans to accommodate the largest crowd of the year Saturday, July 2 when Pepsi, High Peaks Dental and Trim’s Mobile Home Repair present a full race card and the largest fireworks display in track history.

Pyrotechnic experts Dr. Joe Clauss and Sons have vowed to “fire the most gunpowder over
the skies of Plattsburgh since we defeated the British ships during the War of 1812.”

Airborne Plans “Unforgettable” Fireworks Event

South Plattsburgh – Airborne Speedway will celebrate the 4th of July holiday on Saturday, July 2, with five divisions of stock car races and one of New York state’s largest fireworks displays, promoter Mike Perrotte announced today.

The pyrotechnics will be produced and directed by Plattsburgh chiropractor Joseph “Dr. Joe” Clauss and Sons. “We’ve arranged for some extra bulldozing to prepare the launch sites as an added safety precaution because this year’s display will be much bigger and longer than last year’s show, which was very well-received,” he said.

South Plattsburgh, NY – Aaron Bartemy and Patrick Dupree treated Airborne fans to an exciting close-quarters duel in the final 15 laps of the DIRTcar Modified main event Saturday. Bartemy was first to the finish line, but the Sheldon, VT racer’s No. B3 weighed in too light during post-race inspection. Apparent third-place finisher Martin Hebert was also disqualified for illegal cylinder heads.

The rules violations bumped Max Viens of Ste. Cesaire, QC into the runner-up spot and moved Andy Heywood into third. Positions 4-5-6 went to George Foley, Craig Reyell and Kris Vernold.

Mini Modifieds get Airborne spotlight

SOUTH PLATTSBURGH – The Keeseville NAPA Auto Parts 4-cylinder Mini Modifieds are set to go 25 laps, 10 more than their accustomed 15-lap weekly contests, this Saturday, June 18, with the winner to earn $250.

The Mini-Modifieds, mostly Dodge Neons and Chevrolet Cavaliers, race on street-approved tires and are primarily stock, although performance cams and extra camber are allowed.

South Plattsburgh – Pierre Berthiaume of Joliette, QC was on the point in the Della Auto Group Modified feature when rain ended Airborne’s Saturday night race card. The event, scheduled for 30 laps, was delayed by two red flags and declared official after 17 laps were completed.

Berthiaume became the fourth different Modified winner in four events. He started fourth in a 30-car field in the Jacques Marier Racing No. 1 and took the lead from eventual runner-up Max Viens of Ste. Cesaire, QC on lap 9. and held the lead through three more restarts. Viens had a career-best second-place finish just ahead of George Foley in third. Leon Gonyo, Kris Vernold and Patrick Dupree held positions 4-5-6.
