DEVIL’S BOWL SPEEDWAY: Double Features, Enduro “Slated” for Brown’s Event at Devil’s Bowl Speedway

IMG_3812WEST HAVEN, VT – Devil’s Bowl Speedway will make up for Mother Nature’s recent interference with double feature races for its NASCAR Whelen All-American Series stock car divisions at Brown’s Quarried Slate/Brown’s Orchard & Farm Stand Night on Friday, August 16. In order to help drivers and race fans make up for lost ground due to rainouts, twin races have been scheduled for the Bond Auto Parts Modified and Late Model divisions, while the Central Vermont Motorcycles Mini Stocks will run a three-segment special event postponed by last week’s rain.

Todd Stone of Middlebury, VT has built a remarkable record of seven Modified victories in 11 feature events in 2013 and retains the championship point lead entering the Brown’s event. Young guns Hunter Bates and Jessey Mueller are grouped tightly together with veterans Vince Quenneville, Jr., and Ron Proctor as they all chase Stone down.

Thunder Road Street Stock Disqualifications Announced

Thunder RoadBarre, VT – Following last Sunday’s (8/11) 50-lap Street Stock special at Barre’s Thunder Road, engines were torn down and checked. Thunder Road officials have announced the engines of #38 five-time winner Greg Adams, Jr. and the #16 Dean Switser, Jr. were both found illegal. Adams engine was illegal due to piston and camshaft issues, while the engine of Switser was illegal with camshaft issues. The #92 Garry Bashaw was also found illegal in post race inspection for an illegal carburetor and refusal to allow his motor to be torn down.

Adams, Switser and Bashaw have all been disqualified from Sunday’s Street Stock event. The motor infractions have resulted in a complete loss of points for the 2013 season and all three competitors found illegal have been suspended from racing at Thunder Road or any ACT-sanctioned event for the remainder of the 2013 season.

Legend Bobby Allison Coming to Make-A-Wish Night

Barre, VT – NASCAR legend Bobby Allison will visit the Barre highbanks as Thunder Road will be back in action this Thursday, August 15 with Make-A-Wish night presented by Bond Auto Parts. Allison, one of the winningest drivers in NASCAR history, will be on hand to sign autographs for the fans as part of the Vermont Governor’s Highway Safety Program. The evening will feature three (3) Thunder Road divisions, Late Models, Tigers and double features for the Street Stock plus the annual Run-What-U-Brung.

The Run-What-U-Brung allows the average fan a chance to tame the Barre highbanks in their street legal, registered and inspected vehicle. All they need are long pants, long sleeve shirt, helmet and a pit pass. The elimination match races (one-on-one) are one lap each until only the champion is left standing. Past Run-What-U-Brungs have seen everything from bread trucks to jacked-up trucks to two-door hatchbacks.

Bill Davis Pockets $3,000 in M&M Beverage Enduro

Barre, VT – Bill Davis of Monson, MA won his second career M&M Beverage Enduro and pocketed a cool $3,000 at Barre’s Thunder Road on Sunday, August 11. Davis was the only competitor to complete all 200 laps of the thrashing and crashing event.

Don “Dipstick” Tofani led for a good portion of the race before having to pit out of the lead. He recovered to take second with 198 laps completed. Andrew Botala, Mike Cormier, and Nick Gilcris all completed 196 laps and completed the top five. Kelly Miller, Jr., Brandon Gray, Jason Gray, Dan Rae, and Beverly Menard rounded out the top ten.

Greg Adams, Jr. claimed his fifth win of the season in the Allen Lumber Street Stocks 50-lap special. He bested Tommy Smith and Garry Bashaw in the top three. Jadon Perry and Dean Switser, Jr. scored top fives. Jamie Davis, point leader Bunker Hodgdon, Kyle Streeter, Kevin Dodge and Troy Kingsbury completed the top ten.

Jean-François Déry Earns St-Eustache 200 Victory

ACT American Canadian TourSt-Eustache, QC – Jean-François Déry of Quebec held off hometown favorite Patrick Laperle to take his second win of the season in the St-Eustache 200 at Autodrome St-Eustache on Saturday, August 10. Déry now has nine career Série ACT wins.

The race began with a major wreck on lap 1 of the 200 lap event. The wreck resulted in a red flag period of five minutes to allow drivers a chance to fix their automobiles. When the race got back underway Dany Trepanier took the point until lap 25 when Jonathan Bouvrette took over the lead.

Déry finally got to the front on lap 42 to take the lead. He battled with Laperle for the remainder of the event. Déry took over the lead for good and didn’t look back after lap 129. Laperle and Trepanier completed the podium. They were chased to the line by current Serie ACT point leader Patrick Cliche and Bouvrette. The top ten was rounded out with Etienne Cliche, Patrick Hamel, Donald Theetge, Stephane Descoste and rookie Christopher Bedard.

Eric Chase Captures First Thunder Road Late Model Win

PASS RacingWilliams Takes Tiger Win and Dudley Scores Again on WDEV/Calkins Night

Barre, VT – Eric Chase, the Milton, VT helicopter pilot, got a chance to beam in victory lane after 14 years of trying by wiring the Late Model field from the outside pole on WDEV/Calkins Night at Thunder Road on Thursday, August 8.

Chase was put to the test over the second half of the 50-lap feature by veteran Dave Whitcomb who spent many a lap alongside his Gary Clay Builders No. 40. Whitcomb tucked inside to play a few laps of defense when teenager Emily Packard arrived to contest the top positions. Whitcomb made a final bid on the outside in the final three laps and Packard nosed underneath him to finish 2nd on the final circuit.

Jason Corliss was a close 4th, followed by fast-closing Scott Payea. Positions 6-10 went to Jamie Fisher, Trampas Demers, Joey M Laquerre, Mike Bailey and Derrick O’Donnell.
