Winchester, NH – The Granite State Pro Stock Series drivers completed 100 laps at Monadnock Speedway Saturday night, but what they did off the track may be more important.
The entire field of drivers in attendance wielded helmets in between local division feature events to raise money for 8 year-old Allen Hinckley, son of veteran Modified racer Les Hinckley. Allen just recently returned from a 17-day stay at Connecticut Children’s Hospital and a recent two-week stay at Boston Children’s Hospital where he underwent his third surgical procedure for a Congenital Arachnoid Cyst.
Arachnoid cysts are rare, and the cause of which are unknown. In Allen’s case, the young boy had surgery to put a shunt and valve system in his head to relieve pressure to his brain. With this unfortunate situation, the family has spent time away from work and a large chunk of time in hospitals, putting a huge strain on the Hinckley family.

Winchester, NH- Matt Frahm picks up his second series victory at Monadnock Speedway after surviving a caution-marred race Saturday night.
Hudson, NH’s Derek Griffith and Buxton, ME’s Larry Gelinas led the field to the line, but before the field could complete a lap, Griffith and Dillon Moltz made contact, sending both to the rear. The start of the race seemed to be a precursor to what was to come, as a total of 12 cautions flew on the night. Swanzey, NH’s Russ Hersey seemed to have the car to beat early, as the 4-time track champ repeatedly found himself at the point, until the 4-time track champ bobbled coming off turn four, in which Frahm took full advantage, jumping multiple positions to the lead. That would be the last time Hersey would lead in the race, as his engine expired, ending his day early.
Belchertown, MA’s Barry Gray methodically fought his way through the field, and became the car to beat mid-race as he began to walk away from the field. Gray would relinquish the spot on a restart after a contested call sent the two-time GSPSS Monadnock feature winner to the back of the pack. Frahm would fend off charges from Gelinas, who ran consistently in the top 6 all night, and Cory Robert late in the race, to become the career wins leader in the Granite State Pro Stock Series. It is the Lambert Roofing/WDW Machine team’s fourth victory in the series’ short life span.

Walpole, NH- With one race already in the books for the Granite State Pro Stock Series (GSPSS), competitors are preparing for a date with Monadnock Speedway May 24.
The ¼ mile bullring is located in Winchester, NH, and has been host to four events in the early life of the GSPSS, and creates tight, door-to-door battles and good, hard racing. Drivers like Barry Gray and Matt Frahm are no stranger to this speedway, as both have picked up wins in the series at this facility.
To say Gray could drive Monadnock Speedway with his eyes closed may not be a huge stretch for the Belchertown, MA driver. Gray has at least 6 championships between Late Models and Pro Stocks at Monadnock, including a New Hampshire State Championship involving the Winchester, NH speedway and Twin State Speedway in Claremont, NH. Gray has two wins at Monadnock with the GSPSS, and has finished outside the top 10 once in four starts, boasting an average feature finish of 5.5. The driver of the Meadows Motor Car/ Hawley’s Auto Repair Chevrolet looks to this track to surge forward in the standings. “There’s so many good competitors in this series, it’s going to be tough no matter where we go,” Gray states. “But our chances are better than average at Monadnock, as long as luck is on our side.”

Walpole, NH-As the Icebreaker at TSMP quickly approaches; some big names have filed last minute entries.
Winner of the last race for the Granite State Pro Stock Series (GSPSS) at TSMP, Larry Gelinas has announced his intent to pick up another win at the 5/8 mile oval. The entry with the GSPSS makes for a busy weekend for the Buxton, ME driver, as he is also running for points in the Late Model division at TSMP for the 2014 season. Gelinas races as much as anybody on the tour, entering around 50 races during the 2013 season, including 11 races with the GSPSS en route to a runner-up finish in the championship standings. Even with the experience at the track and with the series, Gelinas isn’t sold on himself being a runaway favorite. Gelinas stated “If Mechalides is there, he will be tough. (Mike and Tommy) O’Sullivan’s are tough. It could be somebody different. By the sounds of it, there are a lot of good drivers entering the race.”

Walpole, NH- Excitement is brewing with the Icebreaker at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park (TSMP) fast approaching.
Pre-entries have already started pouring in for the April 5-6 show at the nation’s oldest paved oval. The defending race winner, George “Mad Dog” Bessette, has committed to attempt to grab the checkers two years in a row. RB Performance racer Dillon Moltz has sent in his entry form, as well as Windham, ME resident Brad Babb. GSPSS veterans Fran “JR” Colson and Barry Gray have filed entries for the first of the ten events in the 2014 season, as well as youngster Derek Griffith and 2013 champion Mike O’Sullivan. “I’ve been waiting for it all winter!” Griffith states. “We’re still working hard to get the car done on time, but I’m excited for the season to begin. It’s looking like the best season of my career!” To O’Sullivan, TSMP is a track that is circled as soon as it’s on the schedule. “With the season opener that I’ve been accustomed to for many years, the Icebreaker is now the opening point race for the GSPSS,” commented O’Sullivan. “It’s definitely a good feeling starting out your season at your home track.” O’Sullivan and his brother, Tommy, have a special place for TSMP in their heart, being a facility the two have been around for a long time. Mike picked up a pair of second place finishes in both races last year, and Tommy grabbed third in the final event, the World Series. These drivers and many more are anxious to dust off the cars and engage in battle.
