Wells Battles To Top Spot In Oxford

The NEMST made its way to Oxford Plains Speedway for their first feature event at the legendary facility Saturday Night. An initial gloomy forecast slightly reduced the car count to a strong 25 tour-style minis throughout the pit area. Early on in practice long time Oxford mini stock competitors Justin Larsen and Rob Greenleaf were turning the fast laps around the facility.

Matt Sonnhalter, Justin Larsen, and Toby Wells all won their respective heats with Sonnhalter drawing a 5 row invert for the feature event. After the invert Jimmy Childs and Nick Anderson would lead the field to green for the first time in each drivers NEMST history. The top half of the field was littered with long time fast Oxford competitors and invading NEMST drivers that run within the top five across New England.

Sonnhalter Falls Inches Shy In Speedbowl Finish

 

Many teams across New England felt that the 2014 NEMST event at Waterford Speedbowl may have been the final time the series battled on the weathered Connecticut surface. Thankfully Waterford Speedbowl was bought in the off season and kept a race track. The NEMST would have a chance to return to one of the raciest tracks in New England once again, this time under a new name, management, and officials.

 

Saturday night the touring mini stocks filled the gates of New London-Waterford Speedbowl with a 20 car field set to take green later in the evening. Nick Anderson and Toby Wells won their respective Environmental Engines heat races however Wells would be forced to start in the rear of the field after failing to report directly to the NEMST inspection trailer following the heat race. The invert of 4 rows was drawn by Anderson after winning his heat.

RH2 Doubles Purse For NEMST Return To Speedbowl

NEMST1For the fifth straight season the North East Mini Stock Tour, along with its sponsors Texas Roadhouse and Twisted Tea will be making its mid-season trek to the New London-Waterford Speedbowl. Numerous winners from as far as Maine and Northern New Hampshire have made the long drive to southern Connecticut and taken the winner’s trophy home.
 
For the 5th anniversary longtime NEMST support RH2Way.com has offered to double the winner’s share of the event purse making the push to win that much stronger. $700 to win is the most ever offered for an NEMST event in the state of Connecticut. 40 cars attempted to qualify for last years NEMST event at the Speedbowl.

On what was the most beautiful day of 2015 so far 23 NEMST minis packed the infield of Lee USA Speedway for the 2nd annual Bull Ring Bash. Practice early in the day revealed that Tim Collins was the fastest car at the speedway for the 3rd event of the NEMST Season. Tim was joined by 2014 champion Toby Wells and Matt Sonnhalter at the top of the leaderboards.

Collins started at the rear of the first heat race and had his work cut out for him to earn heat points by finishing in the top 5. Collins thundered through the field diving low, shooting high, and running 3 wide to make his way to the front. On lap 7 he took the lead from Louis Maher and walked to the Environmental Engines victory. Toby Wells ran hard in the 2nd heat starting mid pack and making his way to the front passing 2011 Champion Rob Greenleaf on his way to the Environmental Engines Heat Race win. Collins drew an invert of 1 row for the feature as the lineup was set.

LEE USA SPEEDWAY’S GOVERNOR CUP 150

gdfhdfhfLee, NH – Lee USA Speedway swung open the gates Sunday afternoon to drop the green flag on the 2015 season with the annual running of the New Hampshire Governor’s Cup 150 American Canadian Tour (ACT) Late Model event. The traditional season-opener also featured the NEMST Mini Stocks and Northeast Classic Lites doing battle at “New Hampshire‘s Center of Speed“.

The Northeast Mini Stock Tour got the honor of being the first feature that took to the fast 3/8th’s mile for the new season, with Cris King leading early and often before 6-time winner and 2014 NEMST champion Toby Wells finally worked his way past and took over the top spot.

Wells Starts Off Title Defense In Victory Lane

Under constant cloud cover and light drizzle the NEMST along with its primary sponsors Texas Roadhouse and Twisted Tea kicked off its 7th season at Lee USA Speedway. Twenty-Two tour style mini stocks anchored the infield of Lee, New Hampshire’s fast 3/8 mile speedway. In morning practice it was evident that there were numerous cars running in some very tight brackets and would make an excellent race.

 
Just after 1:00 P.M. the first of two Environmental Engines heat races rolled out with Toby Wells taking control in heat 1 and Joe Baxter surviving a late race battle with Nick Anderson to secure their first wins of the season. Wells drew a 5 row invert for the feature setting him up for a 9th place starting position in the 22 car feature.
