Waterbury, VT – The American Canadian Tour Late Models are set to enter their 23rd season of competition with their season opener at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, NH this Sunday, April 13. This will be the seventh time the 3/8ths-mile speedway has hosted the season opener. Norm Andrews won the first ever ACT Late Model event at Sanair Super Speedway in 1992 and the first event of the season has seen a variety of tracks and winners ever since.
Over the past 22 seasons, the ACT Late Model season opener has been hosted by seven different tracks and seen 16 different winners. Only four drivers have won more than one season opener, led by ACT Champions Brian Hoar (1997, 2011, 2012) and Jean-Paul Cyr (1996, 2004, 2006). Dennis Demers (1993, 1994) and Cris Michaud (2001, 2005) are the only other drivers with multiple season opener wins.

CHARLOTTE, NC (April 9) – As the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Models prepare for the 9th Annual Hickory Motor Speedway, Newton, NC’s Brandon Setzer looks on with added anticipation. In his first season competing in PASS South and coming off a best career sixth place finish last time out at Orange County Speedway, Setzer prepares to race at the track he has by far and away the most experience at in his young career.
There has never been a time in his life when racing at Hickory Motor Speedway wasn’t front and center for Brandon Setzer. From the time he was born, his family has raced at Hickory, most notably his dad, Dennis. Dennis Setzer won the track championship at Hickory Motor Speedway in 1983 and 1993 before finding success in the Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series. Likewise, Brandon has found victory lane at Hickory in Limited Late Models and Late Model Trucks. Now, Brandon’s focus is on taming a much different beast. A beast in the form of a 650 horespower PASS South Super Late Model. And, with a top short track racing coach like his father guiding him and the home crowd behind him, Setzer likes his chances heading to one of the biggest races of the season.

ROUGEMONT, NC (April 5) – Roger Lee Newton held off a furious last lap charge by Trevor Noles that saw Noles spin across the finish line to win the 9th Annual Orange Blossom Special Saturday night for the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Models at Orange County Speedway. Newton’s second Orange Blossom Special victory puts him in elite company joining Preston Peltier as the only drivers to ever win the event more than once.
“I don’t know what it is about this place, but I love it,” said Newton after ending a winless streak dating back to 2011. “He (Noles) hit me, but that’s racing. It’s the last lap and you do anything to win. When he hit me, I just nailed the gas and it stuck. I don’t know what to say, I just can’t believe it.”

Lee, NH – Several Quebec teams are set to help kick off the 2014 American Canadian Tour season at Lee USA Speedway on Sunday, April 13. Série ACT Quebec runner-up in 2013, Alex Labbé of St. Albert, Quebec, two-time Série ACT Champion Donald Theetge of Boischatel, and Jonathan Bouvrette of Blainville, a NASCAR All-American Series Champion and first-time ACT event winner on the final weekend at Autodrome St-Eustache in 2013, are all gearing up for the 150-lap Governor’s Cup on the fast 1/3 mile asphalt track.
Labbé, who missed the 2013 Série ACT Quebec title by just eight points, the difference of four positions in a race, undoubtedly will be the driver to give his Larue Equipment team a second championship, following the one by Karl Allard of St. Félicien in 2010.
