[nggallery id=172]

NORTHFIELD, VT- For Granite State Pro Stock Series (GSPSS) racer Mike Parks, racing isn’t just a hobby, it’s a way of life.

Parks drives the #66 Black Rock Steakhouse/360 Design Labs/D + D Amusements Chevrolet for a series he has created, but he takes his love for the sport much further than that. Parks can be seen race directing at Monadnock Speedway on Saturdays when the series is not racing, helping Mike Bruno at Devils Bowl on Fridays when needed, being a crew member for fellow racers, or just grabbing a seat in the stands when nothing else is going on. “I’m still a fan first and foremost,” the Walpole, NH driver admits. “My friend Nathan Kelly and I attended between 70-80 races one year. I have a unique devotion to the sport.”

PASS Cancels New Smyrna Event; Greenville To Open PASS National, South, and Pro Late Model Seasons

PASS RacingCHARLOTTE, NC (February 1) – Due to circumstances out of their control and with great disappointment, Pro All Stars Series (PASS) officials announced today the cancellation of next weekend’s Winter Meltdown at New Smyrna Speedway. Miscommunication which resulted in the speedway website not being updated with information about the event, the speedway marquee not being changed to promote the event and a test session scheduled by the speedway that would have extremely limited PASS teams practice time on Friday led to the cancellation. For any teams that pre-entered for the Winter Meltdown, those entries will be refunded and mailed out on Monday. Any teams that would like to transfer entries to the Greenville-Pickens Speedway event on March 1 need to contact the PASS offices by Monday.

“We are extremely disappointed in having to cancel the Winter Meltdown at New Smyrna Speedway,” said PASS President Tom Mayberry. “I know that this is very inconvenient for our teams that have prepared their cars and booked travel to Florida, but we felt this decision was best in light of the circumstances. With that said, we’re very excited to kick our season off at Greenville-Pickens on March 1.”

Racing Means Much More to GSPSS Rookie Matty Sanborn

Matty Sanborn PhotoNORTHFIELD, VT- Matty Sanborn will be chasing the Rookie of the Year crown in the Granite State Pro Stock Series in 2014. What may be more important than any honors or trophies, is the relationship that Sanborn has with the sport.

Sanborn started his racing career at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway at 17 years old, and moved to Oxford Plains Speedway the next year. His racing operation is small, but it is very close knit. His father, Randy, is the heart and soul of his racing career. Sanborn and his father were always around racing together, whether it was fielding a car or just being in the pits. “I couldn’t do it without him, no doubt about it” Sanborn says. “He is a disabled Vietnam Veteran, I’m so proud of him, and he is always there for me. We go through a lot of emotions together in racing, it’s just a healthy thing to do together.”

Irvan And Noles Among Latest Entrants To PASS Winter Meltdown

PASS RacingCHARLOTTE, NC (January 28) – Interest continues to grow as teams prepare for the first major Super Late Model points race of 2014. The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) National Championship Series and South Super Late Model season kicks off in just over two weeks with the 3rd Running of the Florida Winter Meltdown on February 8 at New Smyrna Speedway. Leading the latest group of contenders to enter will be two rookies who have high hopes for wins and championships in the New Year. Both Jared Irvan and Trevor Noles hope to build on partial schedules from 2013 that saw them up front and challenging the veterans.

From his first time racing a PASS Pro Late Model for Coulter Motorsports in late 2012, Noles has been a threat for victory everywhere he goes. Noles dominated the PASS Pro Late Model division last year winning seven races en route to the championship. But, it was in the Coulter Motorsports PASS South Super Late Model entry that many began to take notice of the young driver from Fuquay-Varina, NC. In eight starts, Noles finished in the top 10 five times, capped off by a runner up finish at Southern National Motorsports Park. Thanks to his strong season in 2013, Noles will step into the Coulter Super Late Model full-time with an eye towards the PASS National and PASS South titles.

Gray Sets Sights on 2014 Granite State Pro Stock Series Title

Barry Gray with his 29 ChevroletNorthfield, VT- In the eyes of Barry Gray, the 2013 season was an off year. The Belchertown, MA driver picked up a win, 4 top 5’s, and finished 7th in points, but had 4 DNF’s, 3 of which occurred before lap 10. Gray’s goals are to have more success during qualifying rounds, and to practice self-preservation. “To finish first, first you must finish,” Gray adds.

Gray’s racing career wasn’t a planned thing. One day, Gray headed to see a man named Bruce Clark to pick up a washing machine. What he brought back with him was a race car. The irony of the situation is that same Bruce Clark’s daughter, Christina, would catch the eye of Gray’s son Adam years later, as they are due to be married this upcoming October.
