Laperle and MacDonald Enter 51st Milk Bowl

ACT American Canadian TourWaterbury, VT – Quebec’s Patrick Laperle and the “Outlaw” Eddie MacDonald from Rowley, MA are the latest entries in the 51st Peoples United Bank Milk Bowl, to be held at Thunder Road International Speedbowl on Saturday and Sunday, October 5-6, 2013.

Newly crowned ACT Champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. from Dover, NH and his Bruce Bernhardt team have withdrawn their entry from the event. “Our sponsor backed out so we don’t have the money to make the Milk Bowl weekend,” the 2013 Champion said.

Laperle is a three-time winner of the ‘toughest short track’ race in North America and will seek his 4th win in the fall classic on Sunday, October 6, 2013. When the hard charging three time Série ACT and 2008 ACT US Champion was asked why he was coming to this year’s Milk Bowl, Laperle said, “The money! Ten Thousand ($10,000.00) to win is a lot of money. I am excited to try out the new American Racer tire too.”

ACT Young Stars Ready to Spoil Milk Bowl for Veterans

ACT American Canadian TourWaterbury, VT – The American Canadian Tour (ACT) young stars heading to the 51st Peoples United Bank Milk Bowl has a list deep in numbers and talent. Looking for first wins in what is arguably one of the most famous short track races in the country, first time winners include young local and young touring stars from throughout New England and Quebec.

Thunder Road hopefuls who have not held up the Milk Can are led by two-time ‘King of the Road’ Nick Sweet. Sweet is the home-town kid who made Thunder Road his own playground, coming up through the ranks of 4-cyl racing, then graduating to the intermediate Limited Late Model Tiger Sportsman division. He is always a favorite to win at his home track in any event. “I guess I would like to win this race as much as any I have ever been in. I almost won at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway’s ACT Invitational a couple years ago. I’ve done well and been in a position for a win a couple times at the Oxford 250, and have been lucky to have won a few of Thunder Road’s big ACT events, but I am still missing the biggest one!. Maybe this is my year,” said Sweet.

Moffitt Takes Series Championship Down to the Wire

NASCAR K&N SeriesGrimes, IA – Brett Moffitt, driver of the Hattori Racing Enterprises (HRE) No. 11 Gunma Toyopet Toyota owned by Shigeaki Hattori, rolled into the Dover International Speedway (DIS) in Dover, Delaware second in the season championship point standings with a total of 450 points, having fought his way back to within 23 points of the point leader. Moffitt has been the only driver in NASCAR K&N Pro Series East history to record multiple wins at DIS, and he led laps during each of his four previous appearances at the “Monster Mile”, two of which resulted in trips to victory lane.

Two practice sessions were held on Thursday. Qualifying and the Drive Sober 150 were scheduled for Friday, September 27th. The team’s hopes for a strong run were almost immediately dampened during the first practice session when the car bottomed out hard enough to make it recoil and slide up the track with each bump. The team brought Moffitt back to the pits so the crew could work on the chassis, and as a result, the No. 11 ran less than 10 laps in the first practice session. Moffitt’s time was shown as 18th at the end of session one.

PASS South Makes Return Trip To Dillon For Wildcat 150

PASS RacingCHARLOTTE, NC (October 2) – The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Models first started competing “South Of The Border” at Dillon Motor Speedway in 2008. That race was held on a sweltering Sunday afternoon under the hot South Carolina sun and was won by the now retired Justin Wakefield. Since then, the South Carolina Clash at Dillon has been held in March to kick off the PASS South season and Ron Barfield’s 4/10 mile speedway has grown to be a favorite stop for fans and competitors alike.

This Saturday night’s Wildcat 150, an event name harkening back to races held at Dillon Motor Speedway when the track was dirt in the 1970’s, will mark a series of firsts for the PASS South brigade. It will be the first time PASS South has ever raced at Dillon during the fall. And, it will also be the first time PASS has ever staged more than one Super Late Model race in the same year at the facility. Back in March, Maine youngster Austin Theriault took advantage of slower traffic to edge out veteran Preston Peltier for the win in the closest finish in PASS South history.

NINE (9) MILK BOWL CHAMPIONS TO COMPETE IN 51ST EDITION

Thunder RoadWaterbury, VT – The Peoples United Bank Milk Bowl at Thunder Road on Sunday, October 6, 2013 will welcome back nine (9) former champions of the prestigious event, billed as the ‘toughest short track race in North America’. Between the nine former champions who will compete in the 51st running of the Milk Bowl is a group of champions who have earned the right to lift the legendary milk can 15 times.

Eight (8) time ACT Champion Brian Hoar from Williston, VT and four (4) time ACT Champion Patrick Laperle (three Série ACT and one US title) each have won the race three (3) times and will be looking to tie Robbie Crouch’s record of four (4) Milk Bowl victories. “It really is unique in racing. First, it’s not 150 or 200 laps of straight racing. Next, it is Thunder Road, which is a challenge in any race, and finally, there are going to be 20-plus ‘regular weekly’ Thunder Road teams who race 50-lap segments every Thursday night. All these factors make it a very tough race. I love it. It is old-fashioned, get-up-on-the-wheel, hold-your-breath and hang on,” said Hoar.

Eddie MacDonald Finishes Fifteenth at the Monster Mile

NASCAR K&N SeriesA tire issue late in the Drive Sober 150 at Dover International Speedway on Friday in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East twelfth race of the season forced a 15th place finish. A tire problem last week at New Hampshire Motor Speedway’s Magic Mile ruined a potentially strong day and racecar. Friday’s finish cost the Grimm Construction/Multiple Sclerosis Toyota at least four spots at the finish line and a number of positions in the all-important point’s race.

Eddie Mac started the day tied with Ben Kennedy for third place but fell back to fifth place when the outer tire went flat when the green flag waved on the lap 147 restart with the frustrated driver saying, “I was really lucky to keep it off the wall in turn one. Last week we wrecked when the tire blew but this week we ran tires with inner-liners and that was the only thing that kept us off the wall. I just had to limp around the final few laps. The car was not great all race but we were in a position to gain a little in the point’s race. We lost a great opportunity last week to gain a lot of points and today definitely hurt us.”
