JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE’S CHEVROLET – 2ND IN STANDINGS: “Dover is a fun race track. I think it’s a track that really suits my style, and the stats show that. There’s a certain rhythm there. You have to be comfortable with typically the race car at least into the corner; then you have to figure out somehow to make it turn the center, fight forward grip up off the corner to run a good lap there. The rubber, I understand we’re going back to the same tire as we had there in the fall. That tire laid a lot of rubber down and caused a lot of handling issues for teams. We did a good job of working around that. So I’m excited going back. I think it will be a strong race for the Lowe’s team.”
DALE EARNHARDT, JR., NO. 88 AMP ENERGY SUGAR-FREE/NATIONAL GUARD CHEVROLET – 4TH IN STANDINGS: “Concrete has joints in it like a wooden deck, and much like a wooden deck when you don’t treat it well the boards sort of flare up on the ends, and that’s what the joints on the concrete track do. The track gets bumps in those joints, and they’re consistent bumps like when you’re going down the interstate, and it makes the car sort of chatter around on top of those bumps and joints. And, concrete as you run on it gets chalky; it’s difficult to keep smooth or clean. Every time we go out there (Dover) for the first time, the first few minutes in practice everyone is throwing up a bunch of dirt and dust. There is a crossover on the back straightaway of Dover where they bring a lot of dirt in, driving across it into the racetrack. That sort of circulates around the racetrack until it sort of dissipates and goes wherever it goes. It’s harder than asphalt to drive on, for me.”

THE STORY
Brian Hoar of Williston, Vt., heads in as the ACT Late Model Tour championship leader when the series runs The Big Jab 150 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine, on Sunday, May 15. Hoar has a win and two Top-5 finishes to start the season as he searches for a third straight ACT title and record eighth championship overall. Despite a runner-up effort in last year’s non-point TD Bank Oxford 250, Hoar has yet to win at Oxford – where the series will run twice in just over a month’s time.

THE STORY
Brent Dragon of Milton, Vt., looks to gain ground on the ACT Late Model Tour championship leaders when the series runs The Big Jab 150 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine, on Sunday, May 15. The all-time ACT leader in starts has been plagued by power steering issues through the first two events of the season, but the veteran driver has forged ahead to sit seventh in the overall standings. This will mark the third straight event in which Dragon will compete for Avery Motorsports.

Joey Doiron looks to rebound from a disappointing start to the 2011 season when the PASS North Series competes in the Star 150 at Star Speedway in Epping, N.H., on Saturday, May 14. The 2010 PASS Rookie of the Year won his one and only career start at the newly-resurrected Star Speedway, having taken the checkered flag in an open competition Late Model race at the track in 2008. This marks his first start in a Super Late Model on the flat quarter-mile track.

FIve races, five different faces in PASS South super late model winners circle
The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Models traveled to Virginia’s South Boston Speedway on Saturday night and after 150 green flag laps Andy Loden drove to victory lane to earn his first win of the 2011 racing season.
24 drivers hit the track under the sunny skies and Preston Peltier made it two fast times in a row with a 15.049-second lap. Cale Gale, Loden, Philip Morris, Daniel Hemric, Jody Lavender, Justin Wakefield, Stephen Nasse, Ryan Blaney and David Quackenbush rounded out the top-10 qualifiers.
