OXFORD, Maine – Jeff White’s total destruction of his Oxford Networks Late Model ride last week was the worst thing that could have happened … for his competition.
The White Lightning race team put the No. 50 back together better and faster than before, as evidenced by a convincing victory in Saturday night’s 40-lap feature victory at Oxford Plains Speedway.
White, who picked up his first top-division win in 10 seasons of trying late last summer, took the lead on lap 5 and dominated the caution-free encounter. He beat former OPS champion Tim Brackett to the checkers by a margin of more than 1.3 seconds.
“If you saw the race last week, you know how bad (the wreck) was. We busted our humps to get here,” White said.
Teenager Ben Ashline finished on the podium for the second straight week, taking away third from impressive Gerald Parlin over the final five laps. Parlin was a career-best fourth, with four-time champion and two-time 2009 feature winner Travis Adams making a late-race charge in the outside lane to fifth.
One winning streak continued and another ended in accompanying Championship Series feature action.
Mike Short backed up his 100-lap victory in last week’s Allen’s Coffee Flavored Brandy Strictly Stock main event with a 30-lap triumph on Sun Journal Night.
Short went three-wide to move from fifth to second on lap 10 before taking the top spot away from Kim Tripp on the following circuit.
Nobody was able to challenge Short without the help of a caution down the stretch. Reigning division champion Skip Tripp was second, with B.J. Chapman holding off 2007 champ Tommy Tompkins — making his first start of the season — for third. Jeff Merrill emerged from a tense, five-car battle for fifth.
Jimmy Childs, who returned this year the Allen’s Mini Stock division where he won a pair of division championships, snapped Justin Karkos’ two-race run when he held off the red-hot Karkos by less than a car length.
It was the first win of the season for Childs, who scored a Late Model victory in 2008.
Darrell Moore was third after his runner-up effort a week ago, followed by former champion Dan Morris and Larry Melcher. After a rough 30-lap race one week ago, the Minis went flag-to-flag without a stoppage.
Troy Jordan (Macdonald Motors Runnin’ Rebel) and Ryan Farrar (Call of the Wild RV Center Sport Truck) were tops in Agren Appliance Saturday Showdown action.
Jordan led his teammates Matt Dufault and Jason Berry in a 1-2-3 sweep of the 30-lap Runnin’ Rebel event.
Twenty-five cars started the race, with Derek Cook dominating early before his mechanical woes allowed Jordan to speed away with ease.
Charlie Webster took fourth, with Gerard Cote enjoying his second straight fifth-place finish.
Farrar ascended to the top of the podium after three consecutive runner-up finishes to start the season. John Lizotte, Jeff Schmidt, Herb Farrar and Kevin Oliver completed the top five in the 10-lap sprint.
OPS gets the green flag again this Wednesday, June 17 with the Acceleration Series at 6:30 p.m. Next Saturday’s Double T Fence Night includes a 100-lap Mini Stock showcase.

Pelletier, Davis, Hendsbee and Rich first-time 2009 winners on fast Friday
OXFORD, Maine – Four drivers captured their first feature wins of the season in their current division on a closely contested Friday night of JARRacing Photography Go Kart Series action at Oxford Plains Speedway.
Dan Pelletier Jr. pulled off the most exciting move of many on the evening, getting underneath leaders Charlie Tyler and Brandon Douglas in three-wide formation with only three laps remaining in the 13-kart Unrestricted main event.
Pelletier, a champion in three different youth divisions, pedaled on to his initial victory of the season in the 15-and-up Sportsman ranks. Tyler finished second with rookie Douglas third.
Troy Davis, like Pelletier a frequent winner and multi-time champion in the entry-level divisions, captured his first victory in only his second try at Gold Plate.
Jacob Hendsbee (Blue Plate) and Zachary Rich (Purple Plate) also visited victory lane for the first time on the young campaign.
Mike Ricker (Star Champ) and Kyle Mooney (Box Stock) each pulled off their second triumph. Mooney has four in all through the first three weeks.
Davis=2 0swapped the lead with Spencer Thompson three times before taking command for good on lap 7 of the Gold Plate encounter.
Thompson, also a champ in supporting classes, held off opening-night winner Avery Spear for second.
Hendsbee led all 20 laps of the Blue Plate battle while Wade Blanchette, Evan Armington and Brandon Varney tussled behind him.
It was heat winner and division point leader Blanchette getting the best of the runner-up battle. Armington backed up last week’s victory with a third-place trophy.
Rich led the first half of the Purple Plate scramble, then lost it to Varney for three circuits before reclaiming it for the duration.
Mooney shadowed him much of the way in pursuit of his third straight win in the division to start the season, but the young lion settled for second. Owen Poisson enjoyed his best run to date in third.
Ricker lost the Star Champ point to Stephen Beattie, but night-long ignition problems sent Beattie to the pit during a lap 16 caution flag for Douglas’ spin.
That allowed Ricker to reclaim the top spot and his second win of the spring. Douglas, making his first Star Champ start, stayed a wide margin in front of the ailing Beattie for second.
M ooney watched Ethan Matot and Ethan Brown lead the Box Stock sprint early, but he had no problems breezing to his second win after moving to the head of the class on lap 3.
Heat winner Chase Staples put up a worthy fight before claiming second, with Matot third.
The JARRacing series resumes next Friday, June 19 at 6:30 p.m.
OPS cranks it up again Saturday with Sun Journal Night. Five divisions of racing hit the historic, 3/8-mile oval starting at 6:30 p.m.

Dave Pembroke Makes It Back To Back
Barre, VT – Dave Pembroke of Montpelier, VT takes home the first Late Model stock car weekly event on Ferguson Waterworks Night at Thunder Road International Speedbowl. Pembroke outran runner up finisher Nick Sweet of Barre, VT to capture his second straight feature win at the Barre high-banks of Thunder Road. Pembroke’s previous win came at Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic in May. For the first points counting event of the 2009 Thunder Road Late Model season, a draw and +/- system were used. Pembroke used it to his advantage by capturing a +6 in his heat race.
Sweet did all he could to get by Pembroke but had to settle for second. He was followed to the line by Jamie Fisher, Cris Michaud and Jerry Lesage to round out the top 5. John Donahue came home sixth, trailed by Trampas Demers, Tony Andrews, Jean-Paul Cyr and Mike Bailey came home tenth.
Joey Laquerre of East Montpelier, VT took home the win in the NAPA Tiger Sportsman on Ferguson Waterworks Night. He pulled away from runner-up Matt Potter, Shawn Fleury, Brendan Moodie and fifth place finisher Tim Potter. Cody Blake, James Hebert, Mike Ziter, Tony Rossi, and Joel Hodgdon all captured top ten finishes.
2008 Allen Lumber Street Stock Champion Jason Corliss of Danville, VT took home the win in the Allen Lumber Streets and Powershift Junkyard Warriors Main Event. Coming home second was David Whitcomb and third was “Super” Joe Fecteau. The only two Powershift Junkyard Warriors were Kevin Streeter of Waitsfield taking the win and Ken Christman came home second.
Unbelievably Ferguson Waterworks went off with no “waterworks.” The rain could be seen all around Thunder Road International Speedbowl but only a few sprinkles were felt at the track.
Both the ACT Tour and the Series ACT Castrol are in action this Saturday, June 13. The ACT Tour will be at Waterford Speedbowl in Connecticut, while the Series ACT Castrol will be at Capital City Speedway in Ontario. The “Nation’s Site of Excitement” will be back in action next Thursday, June 18 for Harvest Equipment Night with a special appearance by racing legend Bobby Allison.

Norm Wrenn and Larry Barnett Scored Wins Before Mother Nature Won the Remainder of the Evening
Thompson, CT (June 11, 2009) Norm Wrenn brought home the checkers in the Super Late Model race on Thursday Night at Thompson International Speedway. Larry Barnett won the Limited Sportsman feature just days after undergoing arthroscopic surgery. Ten laps into the 50-Lap Late Model race, Mother Nature took over, the rain started and the race program was brought to a halt. The race will be rescheduled and will begin at lap 10 in the order they were in when the rains came. The Sunoco Modifieds, TIS Modifieds and Mini Stock races will also be rescheduled. The night started out with a special event. Derek Ramstrom driver of the #35 Super Late Model has been racing here at Thompson since before he was licensed to drive on the street. He is a junior at West Boylston High School in West Boylston, MA. Many of his friends have never seen him race; tonight they got the chance. To make it extra special there was a drawing held at the school and the winner was Jared Peterson. By winning the drawing, he got lucky enough to get a ride-along in a modified provided by the Ken Bouchard Driving School with Derek driving. When track announcer Russ Dowd asked what Jared thought he said,” it was a pretty amazing ride.” He said he wasn’t nervous but anxious while waiting to get out on the track- “it was awesome I can’t even describe it.”
The Super Late Models had a hard time getting started as there was a multi-car wreck going into turn 2 on the first lap. Involved were George Bessette, Jay Macedonio, and Derek Ramstrom just to name a few. Marc Curtis took the worst of it as his car was towed off the track. Larry Gelinas was the new driver of the Rolly Lindblad #48; he was also collected in the crash but continued on.
Jim Banfield led the field down to the green on the restart with Steve Desmarais outside him. Desmarais took the lead to complete lap 1. George Bessette came along for the ride into third with Norm Wrenn and Jeff Zuidema rounding out the top five.
Mike O’Sullivan was putting pressure on Zuidema in fifth looking low lap after lap. Ramstrom was also on a mission picking off cars on his charge back towards the front. The leader, Desmarais, was being shown the black flag for leaking fluids giving the lead to Banfield. The yellow flew on lap 15 as Mike Rivard hit the wall on the front stretch.
Banfield and Bessette brought the field back to the green with Bessette taking the lead. Norm Wrenn and Jeff Zuidema were battling for third. O’Sullivan and Dave Silvia were also looking to make some moves. O’Sullivan got past Zuidema on lap 18. Ramstrom got by 2 cars on lap 19 to bring him into the top 5.
The yellow flew again for an incident with Les Rose and Jeff Hartwell. Zuidema brought his car onto pit road for some attention by his crew during this yellow. Gelinas pulled his car behind the wall in his debut in the 48 car.
On the restart George Bessette had to battle with Wrenn for the lead. Wrenn got into Bessette sending him around. Ramstrom was once again involved as well as Jay Macedonio. Wrenn again brought the field to the green. Banfield was holding strong in second. Rick Fuller was in third. The yellow flew again on lap 21 for a spin by Mike O’Sullivan
Wrenn again took the lead on the restart. Silvia was now moving up taking fourth and looking under Fuller. Les Rose was trying to muscle his way past Silvia. He settled back in line and now had pressure from behind from Bessette. Ramstrom now was battling past Bessette and set his sights on Rose. He took the spot on lap 26.
Coming down to get the white flag Fuller and Silvia were battling hard for the lead. Fuller spun giving the spot to Silvia. Norm Wrenn took down his third win of the season. Banfield held on to finish second followed by Silvia, Ramstrom and Rose.
Tommy O’Sullivan led the Late Model division to the green flag to start their 50 lap feature. Right away they went 3 wide fighting for fourth. Luckily everyone settled into position without any incidents. Jay Stuart got into John Materas and gave Materas some cosmetic alterations to his car.
O’Sullivan pulled out to a hefty lead with Stuart, Tom Fox, Mark Oliveira and Jeff Zuidema rounding out the top 5. Stuart moved into second. The yellow flew for a spin by Frank Mirabito. Rick Gentes had pulled into the pits just before the yellow flew.
The red flag came out during this yellow as it started to drizzle. Unfortunately, the drizzle became rain and the race was called.
Fred Bates brought the Limited Sportsman division down to take the first green flag of the night. Larry Barnett had arthroscopic surgery on Monday but he was in the car tonight and running in the top five and on the move. Jay Sundeen took the lead on lap 5. Barnett moved into second and looked for the lead. He took over the lead coming out of turn 4 on lap 6.
The caution flew on lap 7 for a three car wreck in turn two. Joe Campbell, Tom Shea and Paul Palen were all involved. Palen was the only one able to continue on.
Barnett led the charge to the restart. Jay Sundeen and Scott Sundeen kept it all in the family for second and third. Joe Arena and “Moose” Douton rounded out the top 5 at half-way. And that is the way they took the checkers. Barnett earned himself an extra $100 from Town Fair Tire for his victory.

FERO SPORTSMAN SHOOTOUT 50 TO KICK OFF
CENTRE FOR SPEED RACING SEASON
(Shediac, N.B.) — The Centre for Speed, Atlantic Canada’s Super Speedway and “Metro Moncton’s Playground of Power”, will kick off its 2009 stock car racing and motorsports
season with the FERO Sportsman Shootout 50 Season Opener on June 14st at 2:00 p.m., the first of 16 stock car and motorsports events to be presented at the CFS during 2009.
The Opening Day event will also mark the historic start of the South East Challenge Series, a partnership between the CFS and Riverglade Speedway where drivers in all four regular divisions of Sportsman, Street Stock, Mini Stocks (formerly TigerCats) and Four 4 Fun (formerly Thundercats) will compete at both tracks for the overall 2009 points championships in
their divisions. This new partnership should ensure increased car counts and more thrills and excitement for fans at both of Southeastern New Brunswick’s premier stock car racing tracks.
On Saturday, June 13th, CFS will host an ‘Open Practice’ for all 2009 competitors from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission to this practice day is FREE.
Apart from the 11 regular South East Challenge Series stock car points championship events in 2009, the CENTRE will also host the CARQUEST Maritime Pro Stock Tour (MPST) on August 15th, three Sportsman Super Series events as well as the Atlantic Street Wars, Atlantic Stock Car Championships and Atlantic Demolition and Endurance Championships over three weekends in October.
For those who like ‘crash and bang’ action, the CENTRE will also present three ‘Days of Destruction’ events, featuring Full Contact, Endurance, and other novelty races in addition
to Demolition Derbies. Additionally, the highly anticipated ‘MONSTER TRUCK MADNESS’ event, featuring some of the top Monster Truck competitors such as ‘Big Foot’ and ‘Sudden Impact’, will be held at CFS on August 29th.
Furthermore, the CENTRE will soon outline the details of musical events that will be held at the CFS in July and August.
The action gets underway
on June 14th at 2:00 p.m. with the FERO Sportsman Shootout 50 Season Opener with points championship racing open to all area Sportsman, Street Stock, Mini Stock and Four 4 Fun 4-cylinder competitors. Front gates and grandstand will open at 1:00 p.m.

Oliver, Grover win first OPS features
on caution-free Acceleration Series card
OXFORD, Maine – The cars and even the technology have changed since Jim Davis Jr. last competed in the Acceleration Series at Oxford Plains Speedway. Getting to victory lane in the Chimney Tech Outlaw division where Davis was a champion six years ago still isn’t a problem.
Driving a car he once built and pronounced a little bit outdated, Davis nevertheless held off Chris Burgess to capture the first of two 20-lap features in the headline division on a cool, misty Wednesday night.
In what is believed to be a first for the 11-year old midweek series, all seven features (130 green-flag laps) were completed without a caution flag.
Dan Brown, Zach Bowie and Addison Bowie chased Davis and Burgess across the line in the hotly contested Outlaw ‘B’ feature.
Outlaw ‘A’ produced the closest finish of the night when Jim Drake and rookie Ryan Robbins ran side-by-side through the entire final lap, bumping in the fourth turn before Drake crossed the line first.
That result was soured when both cars failed the post-race technical inspection, however, handing the victory to Jerry “The Shoe” Goss. David Childs moved up to second, maintaining his streak of five races to start the season without a finish worse than runner-up.
Fred Clavet, Chris Coolidge and Bubba Collins rounded our the top five.
Kevin Oliver highlighted other action with his first OPS victory in six years of trying in the Call of the Wild RV Center Sport Truck division.
“Flyin'” Ryan Farrar settled for his third straight second-place finish, while Ross “The Boss” Spurling saw his winning streak end with a third-place trophy. John Lizotte edged Jeff Schmidt for fifth.
John Childs and early-season dominator Kyle Hewins took the two Macdonald Motors Runnin’ Rebel features.
Childs spent most of his 20-lap race with Derek Cook as a shadow. Cook didn’t get through the tech inspection line unscathed, vaulting Charlie Webster and Craig Bartlett to second and third, respectively. Nate Dubuc was fourth and Roger Bourgoin fifth, the best career finish for each in the four-cylinder division.
Hewins needed less than half the event to charge from his mid-pack starting position to the lead. He cruised to his third win in four 2009 starts.
Early leader Brady Romano faced no challenges for second. Troy Jordan landed third for the second straight Wednesday, followed by teammate and opening-night winner Matt Dufault and Gerard Cote.
Cathy Manchester nearly lapped the field in the Allen’s Coffee Flavored Brandy Ladies feature, although she had some help when the 2-3-4 battle of Christina Spaulding, Vanna Brackett and Dottie Patria briefly ventured off the track in turn one around the halfway point.
The trio straightened it out without any damage. Brackett steered through the near-disaster to run second. Patria finally wheeled around Spaulding on the final lap to claim third, with Missy Blash fifth.
Bill Grover joined Oliver as a first-time Oxford winner by ruling the 10-lap Goulet Home Inspections Renegade sprint. Division champion Jason Hannigan was a close second throughout after following Grover past early leader Gerard Cote.
Cote kept Bob Morey at bay for third.
OPS returns to action Saturday with Sun Journal Night. Five divisions of racing hit the track at 6:30 p.m.
The Acceleration Series continues Wednesday, June 17 at 6:30 p.m.
