Mini Stock racer Bradford sets new consecutive win record for asphalt track

WEST HAVEN, VT – Stock car racing’s youth movement took a back seat at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Friday, September 4, as the elder statesmen showed the way. Leon Gonyo drove to his fourth win of the season to highlight the Heritage Family Credit Union “Member Night” program for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series presented by Yandow Sales & Service and John Deere. Other winners included Bobby Therrien, Robert Gordon, and Chuck Bradford, though all results in all divisions have been deemed unofficial pending technical inspection and review.

Driving a car with the familiar number 4 on its doors, Chazy, NY veteran Gonyo blasted away from the field to grab his fourth Bond Auto Parts Modified victory of the year in the 30-lap main event. Rookie Bob Kilburn had the best showing of his freshman year by leading the first 11 laps before the race’s lone caution period, after which Gonyo seized the lead and cruised to an easy win.

Extra payout, extra laps in all divisions at asphalt championship finale

WEST HAVEN, VT – Devil’s Bowl Speedway is putting up big money for its annual Mekkelsen RV Vermont 200 Championship Weekend on September 12-13. The season finale for the Rutland County asphalt half-mile oval will boast extra-distance races for fans and extra cash for drivers as it crowns the champions of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series presented by Yandow Sales & Service and John Deere.

More than $29,000 in total prize money – nearly triple the regular weekly purse – has been posted for the two-day show. Devil’s Bowl’s home track favorites in four divisions will square off against each other as they run after the track championships, and they will likely face a handful of outside invaders as well.

WEST HAVEN, VT – Bobby Hackel brought the house down in a thrilling finish on The Dirt Track at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Sunday, August 30. The 20 year-old from Rensselaer, NY overcame every challenge thrown his way, fending off two of the northeast’s hottest stock car drivers in Kenny Tremont Jr. and Adam Pierson. Hackel’s win came in the third event of the Berlin Optical Expressions Dirt Track Series n Interstate All Battery Center/Sherwin-Williams Night.

Hackel, whose last win at Devil’s Bowl came on the asphalt half-mile in July 2011, turned a season’s worth of struggles around with an impressive and popular performance in the 35-lap Liberty Street Discount Beverage & Deli Sportsman Modified race. He held off East Corinth, VT racer Pierson and West Sand Lake, NY’s Tremont over a series of six restarts; Tremont tested Hackel in the final five laps and made an inside-lane charge in the last corner of the race, but Hackel won the drag race to the checkered flag by three feet.

Quenneville, Aubin take Modified wins; Masterson sweeps Late Models

WEST HAVEN, VT – Double stock car racing features produced double the drama at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Friday, August 28, at the annual Sugar & Spice/Jones’ Donuts “Double Stack Night” event. Eight feature races were run for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series presented by Yandow Sales & Service and John Deere along with the fourth annual “Great North American Pancake Eating Championship.”

Championship hopefuls Vince Quenneville Jr. and Ron Proctor continued their red-hot fight for the title in the Bond Auto Parts Modified division by running in lockstep in both features. Brandon, VT veteran Quenneville made the first move by winning the opening 20-lap sprint race for the Modifieds with Proctor taking the runner-up spot. Leon Gonyo finished third, followed by Greg Atkins and Billy Lussier.
In the nightcap, Codie Aubin of Plattsburgh, NY continued his late-summer streak of success with his first-ever victory at Devil’s Bowl after holding off a constant challenge from Greg Atkins. Proctor finished third with Quenneville on his rear bumper. Jimmy Ryan – who flipped his car in the opening race and received help from teams across all four Devil’s Bowl divisions while making repairs – led laps early and finished fifth.

WEST HAVEN, VT – Josh Sunn leads the way as the action returns to The Dirt Track at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Sunday, August 30 at 6:00 p.m. Interstate All Battery Center of Rutland and Sherwin-Williams Paints of Rutland present a full program for the five-event Berlin Optical Expressions Dirt Track Series, featuring Sportsman Modifieds, Renegades, Mini Stocks, and the Lucas Oil POWRi Outlaw Midget Series.
White River Junction, VT racer Sunn – a weekly competitor at Bear Ridge Speedway – has been arguably the best performer at the tight 3/10-mile Dirt Track since its opening last fall. Though he has yet to win in his five feature starts to date, Sunn has collected four finishes of either second or third place. He leads the point standings in the Liberty Street Discount Beverage & Deli Sportsman Modified division after the first two races of the 2015 season with a pair of runner-up showings.

Heritage Family Credit Union “Member Night” rescheduled for Labor Day weekend

WEST HAVEN, VT – Devil’s Bowl Speedway has added a make-up date to its asphalt stock car racing schedule, as the previously postponed Heritage Family Credit Union “Member Night” has been rescheduled for Friday, September 4 at 7:00 p.m. The event kicks off a busy Labor Day weekend of racing around the region and will also serve as the final Friday night date of the 2015 season at Devil’s Bowl.

Heritage Family Credit Union members will be admitted free of charge on September 4 by presenting their HFCU bank card, checkbook, or account statement at the ticket window as proof of membership. The HFCU Member Night event is one of the most highly-anticipated fan promotions of the season and returns to Devil’s Bowl after a several years off. The original date of the HFCU Member Night was well-attended on August 14 before heavy rains moved in and postponed the event.
